Alright, so check this out. The other day, I was just chilling at home, making myself a cup of tea, right? I’m reaching for the sugar, and BAM! The spoon just slips right out of my hand and clatters onto the floor. Loudly. Like, really loudly.
Now, I’m not usually one for superstitions, but my grandma used to be ALL about them. She always had some saying or another for everything that happened. So, naturally, my brain goes straight to, “Oh crap, what does dropping a spoon mean?!”
I remembered bits and pieces from when I was a kid. Something about visitors, maybe? So, I did what anyone would do, I Googled it. I typed in “dropping a spoon meaning” and went down the rabbit hole. A bunch of stuff popped up – old wives’ tales, folklore, the whole shebang.
Apparently, dropping a spoon often means you’re expecting a visit from a child.
- Some sites said a girl specifically.
- Others said just a kid in general.
I chuckled. I have nieces and nephews, so it wasn’t completely out of the realm of possibility. But honestly, I didn’t really think much of it after that. I picked up the spoon, washed it off, and went back to my tea.
The next day, wouldn’t you know it, my sister calls. She says she’s thinking of popping over with my two little nieces! Said they were bored and wanted to see if I was free to hang out.
I was floored! Could it be? Did a dropped spoon actually predict the future? I’m still not totally convinced, but it’s definitely got me thinking. Maybe there’s something to these old superstitions after all. Or maybe it was just a crazy coincidence.
Either way, it made for a fun story, and I got to spend some quality time with my family. Now I’m extra careful handling silverware, just in case! You never know what dropping a fork or a knife might bring!
