Something bugged me, and it kept bugging me, so I decided to do a deep dive. The question I needed to answer: Why doesn’t Enel have wings?
It’s weird, right? Everyone else from Skypiea has these little wings on their backs. Even those weird guys from Birka, Enel’s supposed birthplace, got wings. But Enel? Nothing. Nada. This started to eat at me. I spent hours scouring through old forums and re-watching the Skypiea episodes, pausing and rewinding, trying to catch some detail I might have missed.
First, I looked at all the Skypieans. They all have wings. They’re small, kinda cute, and seem pretty useless for actual flying. I watched a bunch of scenes with Gan Fall, the “God” before Enel showed up. That guy had wings, he even had a big bird with him. Then, I watched those Shandorian folks who were fighting for their land. They also had wings.
Then, I started to dig into the lore of Birka. Apparently, it’s another sky island, and it’s where Enel supposedly came from. I found some old discussion threads where people were debating whether Enel destroyed it or not, and many were showing a bunch of people from Birka that had wings. Again, more wings.
This made Enel’s lack of wings even more strange. I mean, he’s got this whole god complex, right? You’d think he would want to show off some big, impressive wings to stand out. But nope. He’s got those drum-like things on his back instead, the ones he uses to amplify his lightning powers.
I started to consider different theories. Maybe he lost his wings in some epic battle? Maybe he was born without them, and that’s why he’s so obsessed with power, to compensate? I even considered the possibility that he removed them himself to get rid of his roots, because he sees himself as a god who is not connected to a tribe. All these ideas were swirling in my head.
So, I’m watching all these scenes with Enel again, paying extra close attention to his body. I’m looking for any hint of scars, any indication that he might have had wings at some point. Nothing. His back is just smooth skin, except for those drum things.

It’s still just a theory, but it’s the one that makes the most sense to me after all this digging.
