Okay, so I’ve been getting into tennis lately. It’s something I’ve always wanted to try, and I finally took the plunge.

I started by, you know, just hitting the ball around with a friend. No real plan, just trying to get a feel for it. It was fun, but I quickly realized that if I wanted to get any good, I needed to get some actual practice in.
So, I started doing some drills. One thing I focused on was my serve. I would just stand at the line and practice throwing the ball up and hitting it. Over and over again. It was kind of boring, but I could feel myself getting better.
Then I started working on my rallies. I tried to focus on my balance and my footwork. I learned that thing called “split step” that you do each time who you play against hits the ball. Seemed simple, but doing it every time was a challenge.
I also tried to focus on hitting the ball deep, rather than hard. I heard that somewhere. And also, I really focused on not going for those fancy shots — winners, they call them? — and focused on just getting the ball over the net.
One of the biggest things I’ve learned is to enjoy the long rallies. At first, I just wanted to get the point over with quickly. But now, I actually look forward to those long back-and-forths. Feels like a dance or something.

I’ve also been reading a bit about tennis. There are a ton of books on it. I found some good deals online, not gonna lie. Also found the official site with all the scores and schedules, which has been cool to follow.
It’s amazing how many people play tennis — like over 23.6 million in the country! And more people are watching it too. I guess I’m part of a trend or something, haha.
Anyway, I’m really enjoying it. It’s a great workout, and it’s just fun to learn something new. If you’re thinking about trying tennis, I definitely recommend it. It’s never too late to start, you know?
