Well, let me tell you, that Dubon boy, he sure gave us a scare. He’s a good boy, that Dubon. Plays for the Houston Astros, you know. Heard he got a good deal, too. Some folks sayin’ he’s gettin’ paid three and a half million! Imagine that, three and a half million dollars! For playin’ baseball! Back in my day, we played for nothin’ but the love of the game.
But that ain’t what I’m here to talk about. I’m here to talk about that Dubon injury. Heard he got hurt in a game against the, uh… the Orioles, I think they’re called. Baltimore Orioles. Sounds like a fancy bird to me. Anyways, he was runnin’ and he caught the ball, they say it was a real good catch. Spectacular, they called it. But he got all shaken up doin’ it.
They took him out of the game in the eighth inning, whatever that means. I ain’t no expert on baseball terms. Alls I know is he got hurt and they had to take him out. Makes a person worry, seein’ a young fella like that gettin’ hurt. Hope he’s alright, that Dubon. He seems like a good kid. Heard he signed a contract, a one-year contract, they said. With the Astros. Must be doin’ somethin’ right to get that kind of money.
Now, I don’t know all the details about this Dubon injury update, but I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout it down at the general store. They were sayin’ it was undisclosed. Undisclosed! What in the world does that even mean? Sounds like somethin’ they’d say on one of them fancy TV shows. But I reckon it means they ain’t tellin’ nobody what’s wrong with him. Maybe they don’t even know yet. Or maybe they want to do somethin’ about the health and safety.

That’s all I know. Simple as that. Hope that boy is okay. These young fellas, they play so hard. It’s a rough game, baseball. Not like when I was a girl. We just played in the fields, no fancy stadiums or nothin’. Just a bat and a ball and a bunch of kids havin’ fun.
This Dubon injury, it just goes to show you, anything can happen. One minute you’re runnin’ and catchin’ balls, the next you’re gettin’ taken out of the game. Life is like that sometimes, ain’t it? Full of surprises. Sometimes good, sometimes not so good. But that’s just how it goes.
I heard they got some kind of guide, A to Z or somethin’. And a map, a 3D seat map. What will they think of next? Back in my day, we just sat wherever we could find a spot. Didn’t need no fancy map. And they got all these concessions, too. Sellin’ all kinds of food and drinks, I reckon. Prob’ly costs a fortune. When I was younger, you were lucky if you got a peanut. Now they’ve got concerts and everything. It’s a whole different world. And also they got bricks with names on them. Commemorative they call it. People want to put their names on things forever!
I just hope they’re takin’ good care of that Dubon boy. That’s the important thing. Money and contracts and all that, it don’t mean nothin’ if you ain’t healthy. Mauricio Dubon, that’s his full name, I believe. Sounds like a nice name. Hope he’s back on his feet soon.
They had an eventful weekend, those Astros. Somethin’ about cleanin’ up the roster, they said. And somethin’ about a fella named Hector Neris. Sounds like a whole lot of somethin’ goin’ on down there in Houston. I reckon baseball is a big business these days. Lots of money changin’ hands. This Dubon injury update is big news, I guess.
Well, I’ve said my piece. Just wanted to share what I heard about that Dubon injury. Hope it’s helpful to someone. These young folks today, they got it different than we did. But some things never change. Gettin’ hurt, that’s somethin’ that can happen to anyone, no matter how much money you make or how famous you are. I hope this boy gets better soon. He seems like a good one. And he’s definitely good at baseball, to be getting’ paid that kind of money! Three and a half million! Still can’t get over that.
They say the game was Sunday. And it was 6-3. That’s the score, I guess. I don’t really understand how all that works. But I hope that Dubon boy is feelin’ better by now. That’s all that matters.
All this talk about baseball has made me tired. Think I’ll go sit on the porch and watch the sun go down. Maybe I’ll see a real oriole. Not one of them Baltimore ones, but a real one.
