Cup Bob Trend: Why Everyone is Talking About This Haircut?

Must read

Okay, so I’ve been seeing these “cup bobs” all over TikTok, and I finally decided to give it a try. I mean, it looked simple enough, and I needed a change from my usual boring hairstyle.

First, I gathered my supplies. I grabbed:

  • A couple of plastic cups – you know, the regular party kind. I used red ones, because, why not?
  • Some bobby pins – a whole bunch, actually.
  • A spray bottle filled with water.
  • Hairspray, My hair is super straight and never holds a curl, so I figured extra hold was necessary.

I started by dampening my hair. Not soaking wet, just a good spritz all over. I parted my hair down the middle – my usual part.

Then came the tricky part. I took a section of hair, maybe an inch or two wide, and wrapped it around the bottom of the cup. This felt so weird! I rolled the cup upwards, towards my scalp, trying to keep the hair as flat and tight as possible against the cup. Once I got it all the way up, I secured it with a bunch of bobby pins. It felt… precarious. Like a tiny, plastic hat held on by sheer willpower and bobby pins.

I repeated this process all over my head. It took forever! And my arms were definitely getting tired. By the end, I looked like I had a bunch of red solo cups glued to my head. Very chic.

Waiting Game

I wasn’t sure about the best time to sleep with it, So I decided to start in the morning and wait and * I just… waited. I think the videos I saw said to leave them in for a few hours, or even overnight. so I left my cup contraptions in for a little about 6 hours.

Finally, it was time to take them out. I carefully removed each bobby pin and gently unrolled the cups. And… wow! My hair actually had some wave to it! It wasn’t exactly the perfect, bouncy curls I’d seen in some videos, but it was definitely something. More like… loose, beachy waves. Which, honestly, I was pretty happy with.

I sprayed it all over with some hairspray, just to make sure it lasted. And it did! I mean, it wasn’t a super dramatic transformation, but it was a fun little experiment, and I’d probably try it again. Maybe next time I’ll try smaller sections of hair, or leave the cups in longer. Or maybe I’ll just invest in a curling iron… who knows!
