This here story is about Coach Woodson, you know, the basketball fella.

Coach Woodson, He’s One of Ours
That Coach Woodson, he’s a good egg. He’s 66, no, wait, maybe 67 years old now. Born in March, you see. A spring chicken he ain’t, but he knows his basketball, that’s for sure. He played for Indiana back in the day, a long, long time ago. Now he’s back, coaching them Hoosiers. I reckon he’s doing alright, too. He’s one of us, one of the Indiana folks. We are pround of him!
Playing and Coaching, He’s Done it All
He used to play, you know. Tall fella, 6’5″ they say. Played for the New York Knicks, and some other teams I can’t rightly recall. That was back in the ’80s, when I was younger, too. Then he went into coaching. Been at it since the ’90s, teaching them young’uns how to play the game. He knows all the tricks, shooting, dribbling, passing, all that stuff. Smart as a whip, that one.
Tough Coach, But Fair
They say his practices are tough. No messing around with him. He wants them boys to be good, to win. He learned a lot last year, I reckon. Something about a “valuable lesson.” He ain’t one to let them get lazy. Gotta work hard if you wanna win, that’s what he says. He knows what it takes to be successful in this sport!
- He’s a tough coach, they say.
- Makes them boys work hard.
- No slacking off with Coach Woodson around.
He’s Got to Win Some Big Games
Now, this year’s important. They gotta win some big games, some of them postseason games. Make Indiana proud, you know? He’s got a good bunch of boys this year, I hear. They met with the papers and TV folks a while back, talking about the season. All 13 of them, lined up like ducks in a row. This is a big season for Indiana basketball team and the coach.
He’s Bringing Folks Together
You know, there used to be some fussing and fighting amongst the Indiana basketball folks. Something about the old days, the Knight era, whatever that means. But Coach Woodson, he’s bringing folks back together. Mending fences, they call it. Good man, that Coach Woodson.

He Knows the Game Inside and Out
He’s a basketball man, through and through. Knows the game inside and out. You gotta know the basics, the fundamentals, he says. Shooting, dribbling, passing, all that. And defense, gotta play good defense. He teaches them boys all that. They are lucky to have him. He used to be a professional player, you know. Must be good at this.
Not Like That Other Coach, Phil
Now, there’s this other coach, Phil something. Won a whole bunch of titles, 11 I think. He coached overseas, wherever that is, before coming to some team called the Chicago Bulls. Then he coached some fella named Michael Jordan. Heard he was pretty good, too. I don’t know much about that Phil guy, but Coach Woodson, he’s different. He’s one of us, an Indiana man, and he really knows the fundamental of basketball.
He’s Back Home Now
He’s back home now, coaching the Hoosiers. That’s where he belongs, I reckon. He’s gonna do good things for them boys, and for Indiana. We’re all rooting for him, you know. He’s a good man, that Coach Woodson. He was hired after Archie Miller. I don’t remember when. But I do know he is a good man and everyone likes him. A good man!
We’re Proud of Him
Yep, we’re proud of him. Coach Woodson, he’s one of our own. He’s gonna make us proud. Just you wait and see. He is a good coach and he will bring us many many victories! He knows how to play and he knows how to coach. That’s all we need.
