Hey everyone, it’s your boy back again with another post. Today, I wanna talk about something I’ve been messing around with lately – keeping track of the Pittsburgh Pirates’ 2023 season. Yeah, I’m a huge baseball fan, and the Pirates are my team, through thick and thin. So, I decided to get a bit nerdy and document their entire season, game by game.
First off, I needed a place to store all this data. A simple notebook wouldn’t cut it, so I went with a good old spreadsheet. I fired up my computer and chose to use Google Sheets because it’s free and easy to use from anywhere. I created a new sheet and started setting up the columns.
I made columns for things like the date of the game, the opponent, whether it was a home or away game, the final score, and of course, whether the Pirates won or lost. I also added a column for any notes I wanted to jot down, like big plays or standout performances. It was pretty basic, but it had everything I needed. With that, I set it all up and was ready to start watching.
The season kicked off, and I was glued to the TV or listening on the radio for every game. After each game, I would jump onto my computer and input the info into my spreadsheet. It was fun watching it fill up with Ws and Ls and noting those big moments. Like that time they came back from five runs down in the ninth? I put that in my notes, man!

As the season went on, I started adding a few more things. I made a simple win-loss counter at the bottom – just a quick way to see their overall record without having to count every game. It was super satisfying to see that number of wins (hopefully) go up.
By the end of the season, I had this massive spreadsheet filled with every single Pirates game from 2023. It wasn’t anything fancy, but it was my own personal record of their season. I could look back and see their ups and downs, their best wins, and their toughest losses. It also helped me to follow the team more closely than ever!
It might sound kinda dorky, but keeping track of the Pirates’ season like this was a blast. It made me feel even more connected to the team, and it gave me something to do during those long summer days. Plus, it’s pretty cool to have my own little piece of Pirates history right there on my computer. I might do it again for the next season, too. But next time, maybe I’ll add some charts and graphs to make it even more detailed. We’ll see!
