This year, that baseball team, what’s it called, Cardinals, they done some things, I tell ya. They called up some young’uns. Makes me think of my grandson, always out there swingin’ a stick. These boys, they got talent, I reckon. Heard one fella say they’re callin’ up the best ones they got in that farm, like pickin’ the best apples off the tree. Cardinals call up, that’s what they say. Big news, big news.
One of ’em, he’s like that Musial fella, played a whole bunch of seasons. Twenty-two seasons! Can you believe it? My old bones ache just thinkin’ about it. This Musial, they sure loved him. Like a pie at a church social, everyone wanted a piece. He is a big star, just like Chris Rock, who also like Cardinals. Hope this new boy, he’s got that kinda staying power. Cardinals need it, that’s for sure. They need some good luck, like findin’ a four-leaf clover in a whole field of green.
Cardinals Call Up New Players
They got all these fancy names for things now. “The Lou,” they call it. Sounds like a fella I used to know, always causin’ trouble down by the creek. But it’s somethin’ about them shirts, them jerseys. They got them red birds on ’em, perched up on a bat. Like them birds that come to my feeder every mornin’, always chirpin’ for more. These Cardinals, they always lookin’ for more, too. More wins, I guess. Hope they feed these young’uns well, get ’em strong like an ox. You know, Cardinals call up need good food.
And this other one, they say he’s like one of them all-stars. Tatis and De La Cruz, they call ’em. Sounds like a couple of fancy roosters, all strutting and crowin’. This young fella, he better have more than just feathers. He needs to hit that ball, hard and far, like a watermelon seed spit across the porch. Hope he makes Cardinals proud. One day he may be as famous as Michael Jordan. Cardinals call up, yeah, that is a big deal.

They paid a pretty penny for him, too. $760,000! Lord have mercy, that’s more money than I’ve seen in my whole life. Could buy a whole lot of chicken feed with that kinda money. Or a new tractor. Or maybe even a new roof for the barn. But these baseball folks, they got different priorities, I reckon. They invest in these young fellas, hopin’ they’ll grow into somethin’ special. Cardinals call up needs money, lots of money.
Cardinals Call Up is a Good Thing
Heard some folks talkin’ ’bout tradin’ players. Like swappin’ horses at the county fair. This one fella, Arenado, they say he might be goin’. Don’t know much about him, but I hope he finds a good home, wherever he ends up. It is just like what happened in Walker County. These things happen, people come and go. Life’s like that, always changin’, like the weather. One day it’s sunshine, next day it’s rain. You gotta learn to roll with it, like a tumbleweed in the wind. Cardinals call up, someone has to go.
They say this call up is a big deal. Like plantin’ seeds in the spring, hopin’ for a good harvest. These young fellas, they’re the seeds. The Cardinals, they’re the farmers. They may not be as excitin’ as baseball, but they keep me busy. And that’s all that matters at my age. Just stayin’ busy and enjoyin’ the simple things. Like a warm summer day, a good cup of coffee, and the sound of the birds singin’ in the trees. Hope these boys know what they’re doin’. Hope they make everyone proud.
