Car Video Tips: Shoot Amazing Car Videos Today!

Must read

So, I wanted to mess around with cars and videos, you know, just a fun little project. I’ve got this old remote control car, and I thought, “Wouldn’t it be cool to see what the car sees?”

First, I dusted off the car. It’s been sitting in the garage for ages. Then, I needed a camera. I grabbed an old action cam that I wasn’t using anymore. It’s pretty small, which is perfect.

Getting Started

The big challenge was, How am I supposed to stick this camera to the car? I used zip ties, very cool!

  • Charged Everything: Made sure both the car and the camera were fully charged. Nothing worse than running out of juice mid-project.
  • Taped it Up: I used a bunch of tape to secure the camera to the top of the car. It wasn’t pretty, but it worked! I made sure it was pointing forward and wouldn’t fall off.

The Test Run

I took the car outside to my driveway. Started recording on the camera, and then used the remote to drive the car around. It felt like I was in a mini-movie!

The first few runs were… shaky. The car was bouncing all over the place, and the video was super wobbly. I realized I needed to smooth things out.

Making it Better

I tried adding some padding under the camera. I just used some foam I found in a package. This helped a bit with the vibrations.

I also realized I needed to drive the car slower. Easier said than done! But, when I did manage to keep it at a steady pace, the video looked way better.

Final Result

It’s not gonna win any awards, that’s for sure. But you can actually see where the car is going, and it’s kind of cool to get that low-to-the-ground perspective. It is successful!

It was a fun, messy little experiment. Definitely something I’d like to try again, maybe with a better camera and a smoother-riding car.

If you’ve got an old RC car and a camera lying around, give it a shot! It’s a good way to spend an afternoon.
