Well, let me tell ya, I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout that 1981 Honda Silverwing the other day. Sounds like a real hoot of a motorcycle! I ain’t never been one for them two-wheeled things, but I hear this one’s somethin’ special.

They say it’s a good one for startin’ out, ya know, if you’re just learnin’ to ride. Like that little Honda CB250, only this Silverwing, it’s got more pep in its step. It ain’t no big ol’ hog like them Goldwings, but it’ll get ya where you’re goin’.
Some fella was sayin’ he saw one for sale for ’bout $2100. That seems a good price to me, considerin’ all things these days. Said it was a 1981 model, just like the name says. I reckon they don’t make ’em like that anymore.
Now, I heard these Silverwing engines, if you take care of ’em, they’ll just keep on runnin’. Like, maybe even half a million miles! Can you believe that? Half a million! That’s like goin’ to the moon and back… or somethin’ like that. I mean, it’s a long way. And they say folks have seen ’em with 150,000, even 200,000 miles on ’em. That’s just crazy to me.
- 150,000 miles!
- 200,000 miles!
- Half a million miles!
They said you could pay around $2,000 for one in good shape. That’s what they’re sayin’ anyhow. And some are even goin’ for a bit more, ’round $2,399 or even up to $4, dependin’ on how fancy it is, I suppose. Good condition is important. You want that 1981 Honda Silverwing to be in good shape, that’s for sure.
If you’re lookin’ to buy one of them 1981 Honda Silverwing motorcycles, I hear there’s lots of ‘em out there. New ones, used ones, you name it. They say you can find ‘em at them Honda dealers, or even from just regular folks sellin’ their own. And they say you gotta browse some inventory thing. Sounds complicated to me.

I heard some young whippersnapper talkin’ ’bout how he liked them old Silverwings. Said they were easy to find parts for. I don’t know about that, but I guess it’s important if you’re gonna be ridin’ one of them things. He was sayin’ somethin’ ’bout a Helix 250, and wantin’ to go “up”, whatever that means. That boy wants to go up with a 1981 Honda Silverwing, that’s good enough for me.
Another fella was sayin’ he had a 1981 GL500i SilverWing. And a Kawasaki somethin’ or other. Sounds like he’s got a whole bunch of them motorcycles. Must be nice to have so many, that 1981 Honda Silverwing sure sounds nice.
Then there was this other fella, talkin’ ’bout how he found one on Craigslist for $2100. Said he already had a Honda CB250, and that it was a good starter bike. I guess that 1981 Honda Silverwing is the next step up, huh?
They was talkin’ ’bout how it’s smaller and lighter than them big ol’ bikes. GL1100s and XS1100s and GS1100s and KZ1100s. I don’t know what all them letters mean, but they sure sound big! This Silverwing, it’s more manageable, I guess. It’s just a good bike, that 1981 Honda Silverwing.
And they kept goin’ on about buyin’ a J.D. Power somethin’ or other. Motorcycle, snowmobile, ATV. I don’t know what that is, but it sounds expensive!

Then they started talkin’ ’bout specs and data sheets. And technical data and performance data. And competition and models with touring bodies. And 497 cm somethin’ or other. And Japan. My head was spinnin’! All that talk about the 1981 Honda Silverwing, I couldn’t keep up.
This one lady was sayin’ her sister got a free 1981 Honda Silverwing! Said it had been sittin’ in a neighbor’s garage for a while. I bet it needed a good cleanin’ after that!
I don’t know much about motorcycles, but if you take care of that 1981 Honda Silverwing, I think that’s all that matters. It’s a good bike, and that’s all you need to know.
