Okay, so I’ve been trying to figure out how far I actually hit the ball. You know, not just the “yeah, I crush it 300 yards” bragging, but the real, honest-to-goodness average distance. So, I decided to track it, and let me tell you, it was a bit of a humbling experience.

Getting Started (and Failing a Little)
First, I tried just eyeballing it. You know, hit the ball, walk to where it landed, and kinda guess the distance. Yeah, that didn’t work. My “guesses” were all over the place, and I quickly realized I needed a better system.
Then, I remembered I had one of those rangefinders. So I started using that. The problem, It’s kind hard to keep walking straight line to find ball. My walk line so curve, I can’t get the right distance.
Figuring It Out (Finally!)
Okay, time for a more serious approach. I went to the driving range. They’ve got those markers out there, so it’s way easier to get a general idea. I brought a notepad and a pen (old school, I know!).
- Warm-up: I started with some easy swings, just to get loose. Didn’t even bother measuring those.
- The Real Deal: Then, I hit about 20 drives. For each one, I used the rangefinder to get the distance and jotted it down in my notepad. I made sure to use my normal swing – no trying to kill the ball, just my regular, everyday swing.
- My poor swing just let ball fly not far away.
The Numbers (and the Reality Check)
After I was done, I went home and did some quick math. Added up all the distances, divided by the number of drives, and boom – there was my average.
It was… lower than I expected. Let’s just say I’m not going to be quitting my day job to join the pro tour anytime soon. But hey, at least now I have a real number. No more guessing, no more exaggerating. This is my actual average driving distance.

It’s definitely a work in progress, but that’s golf, right? Always something to improve. Now I’ve got a baseline, and I can start working on getting that number up. Maybe next time I’ll share some tips on how I’m trying to add some yards to my drive!
