Okay, so the other day I was messing around on the court, and I got to thinking about my three-point shots. Specifically, I wanted to know the average distance I was shooting from. It’s not like I can just eyeball it, right? So, I came up with a little project to figure this out.

Getting Started
First, I needed a way to measure. I don’t have any fancy equipment, so I grabbed my phone with a tape measure app. I was thinking use the measure app go to the basketball court and record it.
The Process
- Marking My Spots: I started by picking random spots around the three-point line where I usually like to shoot from. I probably picked, like, 10 different spots to get a good variety.
- Measuring Each Shot: From each spot, I used my phone’s measure app and extend it to my shooting spot. It’s not a perfect method, but It will give me a decent idea.
- Recording the Data: Every time I measured a distance, I jotted it down on my phone’s notepad. I keep it to a simple number list. Keep track, Keep simple!
Figuring Out the Average
After I had all my distances, it was just simple math:
Add up all the distances I wrote down.
Count how many shots I took (that’s how many numbers I added up).
Divide the total distance by the number of shots.

And that’s it. That number gave me a rough average distance for my three-point shots.
The Result
I found my shots have a distance from 22ft to 25 ft, Finally, I got 23.5 ft average distance, I think the result is great. It was just a little experiment, I’m happy to get it done.
