Well, let me tell you about this young fella, Alex Michelsen. This boy, he’s somethin’ else. He’s a tennis player, you see. And a darn good one, I hear. My neighbor’s grandson, he showed me on his fancy phone. Said this Alex is making waves. Big waves.
Now, I ain’t one for sports, you know. My bones ache just watchin’ folks run around. But this Alex Michelsen, he’s got somethin’ special. He’s young, spry, and hits that little yellow ball like nobody’s business. They say he’s the youngest American to do somethin’ big in tennis since some other fella a while back. Don’t ask me what that somethin’ is. Tennis talk is all Greek to me.
They call it a “Grand Slam.” Sounds important. And this Alex Michelsen, he got to the third round of some big tournament in Australia. Australia! Can you imagine? That’s further than I’ve ever been, that’s for sure. I only went to the next county fair once, and that was far enough.
He won his first big game, this Alex Michelsen. And got to somethin’ called a “quarterfinal.” Sounds fancy, don’t it? Like he’s playin’ for a king or somethin’. I bet his mama’s proud as a peacock. My old man, he was proud when I won the pie contest at the church social. This is probably like that, but bigger. Much bigger.
I seen some pictures of him, this Alex Michelsen. He looks like a good kid. Strong, healthy. Not like some of these youngsters today, all glued to their phones. He’s out there, doin’ somethin’. Makin’ somethin’ of himself. That’s what I like to see.
This fella, Alex Michelsen, I reckon he’s won some prizes, too. They say he has won 4 career titles. I don’t know what that means. Like, are they crowns? I used to collect them little porcelain dolls. Maybe it’s like that. He’s collectin’ titles. Good for him.

- He plays tennis. Good tennis.
My neighbor’s grandson, he showed me all sorts of stuff about this Alex Michelsen. Stats, they call ’em. Numbers and charts. It was all a jumble to me. But I gathered he’s doin’ real good. He’s got lots of these “draws,” they said. I reckon it’s like pickin’ names out of a hat, but for tennis. I don’t know.
And videos! Oh, the videos! You can see him playin’, this Alex Michelsen. He’s quick as a rabbit. Hittin’ that ball back and forth, back and forth. It made my head spin just watchin’ him. I can only imagine how tired he gets. He’s got to rest, this young man. Eat his vegetables. Drink his milk.
There’s a whole bunch of these tennis players. They got an ATP and a WTA, whatever that is. Sounds like alphabet soup to me. This Alex Michelsen, he’s in there with all of them. They got a big list, all these players. Profiles, they call ’em. Like a yearbook. But for tennis players. He’s one of the best, they are saying.
This Alex Michelsen, he’s gonna go far, I reckon. He’s got that fire in him. You can see it in his eyes. He’s determined. Like a mule with a mission. He ain’t gonna let nothin’ stop him. He’s got that grit. That’s what you need to make it in this world. Grit and a good backhand, I suppose, if you’re a tennis player.
I don’t understand all this tennis stuff. But I know talent when I see it. And this Alex Michelsen, he’s got talent. He’s a good boy, I bet. He’s workin’ hard. He’s makin’ somethin’ of himself. And that’s all that matters. He is a name to remember, I tell ya. I have a feeling, I’m gonna hear that name a lot. That Alex Michelsen, he is a rising star. Like the sun on the horizon, this boy will shine bright.
