Need a Seat Belt Strap Pad? Quick Guide to More Comfort

Must read

Okay, so the other day, I was driving, and the seat belt was really digging into my shoulder. It’s always doing that, and it drives me nuts! I figured there had to be a better way, so I decided to make my own seat belt strap pad. Seriously, it’s super easy.

Getting Started

First, I gathered some stuff I had around the house:

  • Some soft, fluffy fabric – I used an old fleece blanket.
  • A bit of quilt batting for extra padding.
  • Scissors.
  • Needle and thread (or a sewing machine if you’re fancy).
  • Some velcro strips.

Putting It Together

I started by cutting two rectangles of the fleece fabric. I made them about 8 inches long and wide enough to wrap around the seat belt with some overlap. It’s really up to how you prefer. Then, I cut a piece of the quilt batting just a little smaller than the fleece rectangles.

Next, I layered the pieces: fleece (right side up), batting, then the other piece of fleece (right side down). So, basically, the soft sides of the fleece were facing each other.

I pinned everything together to keep it from sliding around. Then, I sewed around three sides, leaving one of the short ends open. If you’re really not a fan of hand, you can surely use machine to sew, but hand sewing is ok too.

After that, I turned the whole thing right-side out through the opening. It looked like a little pillowcase at this point.

I folded the raw edges of the opening inward and sewed that closed. Again, a simple stitch is all you need.

Finishing Touches

Finally, I attached the velcro strips to the long edges of the pad. I put one side of the velcro on one edge and the other side on the opposite edge, so it would wrap around the seat belt and stick to itself.

And that’s it! I wrapped it around my seat belt, and it was instantly so much more comfortable. No more digging! This was a simple thing I could do by myself, and I am happy to share it, hope it’s helpful for you.
