Yamaha 175: Is This Outboard Motor Right for You? (Specs & Review)

Must read

Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this Yamaha 175 lately, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey. I wanted to share what I’ve been up to, in case anyone else is thinking of doing something similar.

Getting Started

First things first, I got my hands on this old Yamaha 175. It wasn’t in the best shape, to be honest. It had been sitting around for a while, collecting dust and who-knows-what-else. I cleaned it up. Got all of that grime.

The Nitty-Gritty

Then came the fun part – taking it apart!

  • I started with the obvious stuff: the seat, the tank, the side panels. Easy peasy.
  • Next, I tackled the engine. I carefully labeled everything as I removed it, so I wouldn’t end up with a pile of bolts and no idea where they went. Trust me, that’s a headache you don’t want.
  • I took photos of every * is very useful for me.

Putting It Back Together

After cleaning and some parts, it was time to put this bad boy back together.

  • I basically reversed the process, using my photos and notes as a guide.

  • Slowly but surely, it started to look like a motorcycle again!

The Moment of Truth

Finally, the moment I’d been waiting for: starting it up! I turned the key, hit the starter, and… it roared to life! It was such a great feeling, hearing that engine purr after all that work. It took me a bit of time to get, adjust and improve it. Now, it runs, and looks, pretty darn good, if I do say so myself.

It’s not perfect, of course. There are still a few things I want to tweak. But overall, I’m super happy with how it turned out.

This whole experience has taught me a lot. It’s been frustrating at times, sure, but also incredibly rewarding. If you’re thinking about taking on a project like this, I say go for it! Just be prepared to get your hands dirty, and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it.
