125 Dirt Bike Buying Guide: Top Picks & What to Look For!

Must read

Okay, so today I decided to get my hands dirty and mess around with my 125 dirt bike. It’s been sitting in the garage for a while, and I figured it was time for some TLC.

First things first, I gathered my tools. Nothing fancy, just the basics: a wrench set, some pliers, a screwdriver, and, of course, my trusty can of WD-40. You never know when you’re gonna need that stuff.

Getting Started

I started by giving the bike a good once-over. I checked the tires to make sure they were properly inflated. One was a little low, so I pumped it up with my old bicycle pump. Took a bit of effort, but we got there.

  • Checked the chain: It was looking pretty dry and rusty. I grabbed a chain cleaner and sprayed it down real good. Then I took an old toothbrush (don’t tell my wife) and scrubbed the heck out of it. It’s amazing how much gunk builds up on those things.
  • Lubed it up: Once the chain was clean, I applied some chain lube. I made sure to get every link, rotating the wheel to get it all covered.
  • Checked the brakes: I squeezed the brake levers a few times to make sure they were engaging properly. They felt a little spongy, so I might need to bleed them later, but they seemed okay for now.
  • Checked Oil: I checked the oil and to make sure there weren’t any suprises. Everything looked good so I moved on.

The Fun Part

After all that, I figured it was time to fire it up. I turned the fuel valve on, gave it a few kicks, and…nothing. Tried again. Still nothing. Okay, don’t panic.

I checked the spark plug. It looked a little fouled, so I cleaned it off with a wire brush. Put it back in, another kick…and vroom! It roared to life! Music to my ears, I tell ya.

I let it idle for a few minutes, just listening to that sweet engine sound. Then, I hopped on and took it for a little spin around the yard. Felt good to be back on two wheels, even if it was just a quick ride.

All in all, it was a pretty successful day. The bike’s running, the chain is clean, and I didn’t break anything (which is always a bonus). Now I’m just itching to get it out on the trails!
