Alright, so the other day I was poking around in the attic, you know, doing some spring cleaning, when I spotted something up in the rafters. It was big, round, and papery-looking – definitely a hornet nest! I’m not a huge fan of stinging insects, so I decided I needed to do something about it, and I figured I’d snap some pictures along the way.

Getting Ready
First things first, I needed to figure out exactly what I was dealing with. I went online to look at some reference images, make sure I could Identify what it is.
After that, I geared up. This wasn’t going to be a shorts-and-t-shirt kind of operation. I put on:
- Long pants
- A thick, long-sleeved shirt
- Heavy-duty gloves
- Boots
- A hat with a mosquito net (better safe than sorry!)
Taking the Pictures
I grabbed my phone, turned on the flashlight, and carefully climbed back up into the attic. The nest was still there, hanging ominously from the beam. I tried to get as close as I safely could, which wasn’t very close, to be honest. I zoomed in with my phone and started snapping pictures.
I tried to get different angles, I took a bunch, just to be sure I had some good ones.
What I Did Next
After I got my photos, I backed away slowly and carefully. No sudden movements! Once I was safely out of the attic, I did some more research. Turns out, messing with a hornet nest yourself can be pretty dangerous. Those guys are aggressive, and their stings are no joke.

So, I decided to call a professional. I found a local pest control company, I showed them the pictures I took. He confirmed it was an active nest and, gave me a quote.
And that’s the story! It wasn’t the most exciting adventure, but it was definitely a learning experience. And I’m glad I took the pictures – it helped the pest control guy understand the situation, and now I have a cool (if slightly terrifying) story to tell.
