Okay, so I’ve been messing around with my golf swing lately, specifically trying to figure out this whole “lead knee” thing. I heard some guys talking about it at the range, and it sounded interesting, so I figured I’d give it a shot.

I started by just watching some videos online. I saw a bunch of different explanations, some made sense, some were way over my head. I’m no pro, just a weekend golfer trying to get a little better.
First Attempt – Total Fail!
My first try was… well, let’s just say it wasn’t pretty. I went out to the backyard and started swinging, trying to really focus on bending that front knee inwards on the backswing. I felt like I was tying myself in knots! I shanked a few, topped a couple, and generally felt like a complete idiot. I almost gave up right there.
Tweaking and Experimenting
But, I’m stubborn. I went back and watched a couple more videos, focusing on the ones that seemed simpler. I realized I was probably overdoing it. It’s not about some huge, dramatic movement. It’s more subtle than that.
- I started by just taking some practice swings, really slow, feeling the weight shift to my front foot.
- Then I tried to let my lead knee naturally move slightly inward as I brought the club back. Not forcing it, just letting it happen.
- I also focused on keeping my hips turning, which seemed to help the whole thing feel more connected.
A Little Progress!
After a few days of messing around like this, I started to see some improvement. My shots were definitely more consistent. I wasn’t hitting it perfectly every time, but I wasn’t spraying the ball all over the place either. I felt like I had a little more power, too, which was a nice bonus.
Still Work to Do
My Key Takeaways (So Far)
It’s not a miracle cure, and I’m definitely still working on it, i feel that i have achieved more than before. But focusing on the lead knee, in a relaxed and natural way, does seem to be helping my swing. My current routine looks like this:
- I setup, checking ball position and alignment.
- My backswing begins by feeling my weight shift to my lead foot, allowing a natural, slight inward bend of my front knee.
- As I transition, I focus on my lower body driving through the ball.
It’s a process, that’s for sure. I’ll keep practicing and see how it goes. Maybe I’ll even impress those guys at the range someday!
