Okay, so it was April 18th, 2021. I remember I was really itching to get some football in, but it wasn’t like a formal game or anything. Just wanted to kick the ball around, you know?

First thing I did was find my old ball. It was kinda deflated, tucked away in the garage. So, I pumped it up – took a bit longer than I thought, that pump was ancient!
Getting Started
- Checked the weather: It was, thankfully, pretty decent. No rain, just a bit cloudy. Perfect.
- Texted a couple of buddies: No luck. Everyone was busy. So, solo session it was!
- Headed to the local park: It’s got a big, open field, usually pretty empty on a Sunday.
Once I got to the park, I started with some basic warm-ups. Just some light jogging, stretching, you know, the usual stuff to avoid pulling a muscle. Didn’t want to end the session before it even really began.
Then, I set up a couple of makeshift goals using my water bottle and my jacket. Classy, I know. I just started dribbling, practicing some simple moves, nothing fancy. Tried a few (terrible) free kicks, worked on my ball control… mostly just enjoying the feel of the ball at my feet.
Drills and Practice
- Dribbling: Weaving in and out, trying to keep the ball close.
- Shooting: Practicing shots from different angles and distances. Mostly missed!
- Passing (against a wall): Yeah, I know, not ideal, but it’s better than nothing.
I probably spent a good hour or so just messing around. Tried a few tricks I’d seen online – failed miserably, but hey, it was fun. The sun even came out for a bit, which was a bonus.
By the end, I was pretty tired, but in a good way. Packed up my stuff, walked back home, and felt pretty satisfied with my little solo football session. It wasn’t anything spectacular, but it was exactly what I needed.
