Okay, so I saw this “the lights are too bright” meme going around, and I just had to try and make my own. You know, the one with the super dramatic reaction to, well, bright lights? I figured it’d be a fun little project, and honestly, it turned out to be way more entertaining than I expected.

Getting Started
First, I needed a subject. My cat, Mittens, was the obvious choice. She’s got those big, expressive eyes, and she’s always up for a bit of drama (especially when treats are involved). I also grabbed my phone – that’s all I needed for filming.
The Setup
The key here is contrast. I needed a dimly lit space and then a sudden burst of bright light. My bathroom ended up being perfect. I turned off the main light, leaving just a small nightlight on. That gave Mittens those adorable, huge pupils.
Action!
Next up, the bright light. I just used my phone’s flashlight. I held it close to Mittens’ face (not too close, of course, I didn’t want to actually blind her!). I started recording, then BAM – flashlight on!
- Take 1: Mittens just blinked. Not dramatic enough.
- Take 2: She squinted and turned her head. Getting closer…
- Take 3: GOLD! She squinted, recoiled dramatically, and then gave me this look like I’d personally offended her ancestors. It was PERFECT.
The Final Touches
I do some basic editing. Add some text on the screen like “the lights are too bright”.
All in all, this took like, 10 minutes? And it was hilarious. It perfectly captured that over-the-top reaction that the meme is all about. If you’re looking for a quick, silly project, definitely give this one a try! Just be prepared for your subject (whether it’s a pet, a friend, or yourself) to give you some serious side-eye afterward.
