How did that Monterrey game go last night, you ask? Well, lemme tell ya, it was somethin’ else. That Monterrey team, they sure know how to play that soccer ball game.

I heard them Monterrey boys was playin’ against that Inter Miami CF team in that big CONCACAF Champions Cup. Big fancy words for a soccer game if you ask me. All them fancy names, Fox this and Fox that. Reminds me of when my old rooster used to chase them foxes around the yard. He was a feisty one, that rooster.
I heard some folks sayin’ that Club Amrica done beat Monterrey in some other game, somethin’ about a Liga MX thing. 2 to 1 they said. Sounds like a close one. And they was sayin’ Amrica was close to winnin’ some big prize for the third time. Third time’s the charm, they always say. Like when I try to get that darn needle threaded. Takes me three tries usually.
- Brandon somethin’, Germn somethin’ else, and Jesus somethin’ scored goals.
- Monterrey won 3 to 1, I heard.
- This was the second game of two, they was sayin’.
Them boys was playin’ in a place called Guadalupe, Mexico, at a stadium called BBVA. Sounds like a bank to me. Maybe they was playin’ for money? Wouldn’t surprise me none. Everything’s about money these days. Back in my day, we played for fun, not for no fancy dollars.
Rayados, that’s what they call one of the teams. Sounds like a type of fish to me. Remember that time we went fishin’ down at the creek and caught that big ol’ catfish? That was a day, I tell ya. Anyway, this Rayados team, they scored first. Some fella named Alvaro ‘Ponchito’ Gonzalez. Then another fella, Matias Kranevitter, he scored near the end.
I heard tell that Club Amrica beat Monterrey again in another game, 3-2. They are called Liga MX champions, that is a record 16th time. That Amrica team is good, I reckon. Like when my Bessie used to win all them pie contests at the county fair. She made a mean apple pie, that Bessie.

Someone was talkin’ about some fella named David Ruiz gettin’ in trouble. Two yellow cards, they said. Sounds like he was bein’ a bit of a hothead. Reminds me of my grandson, always gettin’ into somethin’. Boys will be boys, I suppose.
This Monterrey team, they done won a bunch of games before. Five somethin’ titles, three cups, and five of them CONCACAF Champions League titles. They won three in a row a while back, 2011, 2012, and 2013. That’s a lot of winnin’. Like when my hens used to lay eggs every day. We had eggs comin’ out of our ears!
That’s about all I heard about that Monterrey game. They sure do play a lot of soccer these days. More than they used to, that’s for sure. It was a big game, I reckon, with all them goals and such. Keeps folks entertained, I suppose. Better than watchin’ paint dry, as they say. As for Monterrey, well, they sure seem to be a team to watch. They got some good players, and they know how to win. That’s all that matters, ain’t it? Winning. Just like in life. You gotta keep on winning, no matter what. You gotta keep on going, like that little engine that could.
I remember back when I was a little girl. There was no soccer to be found. We didn’t need all this fancy stuff to keep us busy. We had our chores, and we had each other. That was enough. But times change. People change. And I suppose soccer is just a part of that change. It brings people together. It gives them something to cheer for. And that’s not such a bad thing, I guess. Even if it is a bit confusing to an old lady like me.
Well, that is all I know about soccer and stuff. Hope you know what I’m talkin’ about. Go Monterrey, go! Score goals, win the game and be happy!
