So, I got curious about how long the Super Bowl lasts. You know, with all the commercials and the halftime show, it feels like it goes on forever. I decided to find out for myself.

Scrolled through a few of them, and it looked like the game itself is supposed to be about 60 minutes of playtime, divided into four 15-minute quarters.
But here’s the thing, that’s just the actual game time. There are all sorts of breaks in between. Timeouts, commercial breaks, the end of each quarter, halftime – it all adds up. I dug a little deeper, and most places said that the whole thing, from kickoff to the final whistle, usually takes around 3 to 4 hours.

- Halftime: Usually 20-30 minutes, but it can be longer for the Super Bowl.
- Commercials: Lots of them, and they’re expensive! Each one adds a few minutes.

I decided to put it to the test. I grabbed some snacks, settled on the couch, and watched the Super Bowl this year. I also use a stopwatch to keep track of every break time. And you know what? It totally depends. Some parts of the game flew by, especially when it was a close game. But other times, especially during long commercial breaks, it felt like it dragged on.
After it was all over, I checked my stopwatch and my notes. The Super Bowl I watched lasted about 3 hours and 45 minutes. That’s a long time to be glued to the TV! But hey, it’s the Super Bowl, it only happens once a year.
