Workout Invites from NBA: What Does it Take to Train Like an NBA Star? (Heres Your Ultimate Guide to Fitness)

Must read

Okay, so, let me tell you about this wild ride I’ve been on lately. It all started with a simple idea: get in better shape. I’m not getting any younger, you know? And those NBA guys? They’re like, the peak of physical fitness. So, I thought, why not try to get a taste of what they go through?

I started digging around, trying to find out how to get invited to one of those legendary NBA workouts. You see those all over the internet, right? It seemed like a long shot, honestly. But hey, I figured, no harm in trying.

First things first, I sent out some feelers. Emailed a bunch of teams, some retired players, even some trainers I found online. Most of it was just ignored. Expected that, really. But then, out of the blue, I got a reply! A small market team’s assistant coach said they had an open spot in a workout next month. I couldn’t believe it!

I was so stoked! But also, a little freaked out. I mean, I’m just a regular dude. These are pro athletes! So, I kicked my own training into high gear. Started running more, lifting more weights, eating better. Felt like death warmed over some days, but I was determined.

Finally, the day of the workout arrived. I flew out to the city, feeling like I was in a movie or something. Walked into the training facility, and it was surreal. All these tall, athletic guys warming up. I definitely felt out of place.

The workout itself? Brutal. Just absolutely brutal. We ran drills I’d only ever seen on TV. Did sprints until my lungs were burning. Lifted weights that felt like they were made of solid lead. I was pushed way beyond my limits.

  • Run: Sprints, Shuttle runs, long-distance runs
  • Jump: Box jumps, Vertical leaps, Broad jumps
  • Lift: Squats, Deadlifts, Bench press
  • Shoot: Spot-up shots, Off-the-dribble shooting, Free throws

There were moments I thought I was going to puke or pass out. But I kept going. I mean, how often do you get a chance like this, right? And you know what? I actually managed to keep up, sort of. I wasn’t the best, not by a long shot. But I wasn’t the worst either.

A Dream Come True

At the end of it all, I was completely gassed. But also, incredibly proud of myself. I did it. I survived an NBA workout. And sure, I didn’t get a contract or anything. Didn’t expect to. But I proved to myself that I could push my body further than I ever thought possible.

It was an amazing experience. One I’ll never forget. It’s not every day you get to test yourself against the best. And even though I’m back to my regular life now, I feel different. More confident. More motivated. It’s like, if I can handle that, I can handle anything. So yeah, that’s my story. Pretty crazy, right?
