Work Harder Nobody Cares: Why It Hurts | Change Your Mindset and Find Fulfillment in Your Work

Must read

Okay, let me tell you about a little project I dove into recently. The whole thing started because I was feeling like I was stuck in a rut, you know? Just going through the motions, not really pushing myself. So, I decided it was time for a change, time to really hustle and see what I could achieve.

I started by setting some clear goals. Not just any goals, but ones that made me a little nervous, a little uncomfortable. Like, I wanted to wake up earlier than usual. Sounds simple enough, but it required me to go to bed earlier and say no to late-night distractions. I changed my routine and forced myself to sleep earlier and get up earlier. It’s tough to change my habits, but I did it.

Then, I decided to tackle a project I’d been putting off forever – learning a new skill. I’ve always been fascinated by cooking, so I thought, why not? I started by reading some easy recipes and watching some videos online. But when I started cooking, I failed many times. My first few dishes turned out terrible. They were either too salty or undercooked. I almost gave up. But then, I realized that failure is just a part of the process. It’s how you learn. I tried to improve my cooking every day. I made many meals and asked my friends and family for advice. Finally, my dish started to taste good. I did a thing I thought was not possible.

Here’s what I did:

  • Woke up earlier: This meant going to bed earlier and saying no to late-night TV.
  • Learned to cook: Started with reading books, then watching online videos, then tried to cook it by myself. When the first few dishes turned out terrible, I didn’t give up. I kept practicing and asked others for suggestions.
  • Did exercise every day: After learning cooking, I started to focus on keeping myself healthy. I set a goal to exercise every day. I started with some simple walking, and added some easy workouts every day. After one week, I was able to run 5 kilometers every day. It’s an amazing achievement for me!
  • Started a small side hustle: Since I had more free time, I started to think about making some money. I did some research and found a small business that I could start with. I failed a couple of times but learned a lot. It’s not easy, but I made it.

It wasn’t easy, folks. There were days when I wanted to just throw in the towel, days when I felt like I wasn’t making any progress at all. But I kept pushing, kept reminding myself why I started in the first place.

And you know what? It was worth it. I ended up achieving things I never thought possible. Learned to cook some new dishes, started exercising regularly, and even started a small side project that’s actually bringing in some extra cash. It’s not about the money, though. It’s about proving to myself that I could do it, that I could push past my comfort zone and come out stronger on the other side.

The Takeaway

The biggest thing I learned from all of this is that nobody cares how hard you work except you. You gotta be your own biggest cheerleader, your own toughest critic. You gotta push yourself, even when no one else is watching, even when you feel like giving up. Because at the end of the day, the only person you’re really competing with is yourself.

So, yeah, work harder. Not for anyone else, but for yourself. You might be surprised at what you’re capable of.
