All right, today’s topic is about “sharp picks,” and it’s a bit of a story about how I got into this and what I did.
So, it all started when I decided to organize my garage. You know, the usual stuff – old tools, some gardening gear, and a bunch of random things that just ended up there. I wanted to make the space more usable, maybe even set up a small workshop area.
I started by clearing out the bigger items. Moved some boxes, threw out some junk, and realized I needed a better way to store my tools. They were all over the place, and honestly, it was a mess.
I thought, “Okay, let’s get some tool holders.” But I didn’t want those bulky, expensive ones. I wanted something simple, effective, and, well, cheap.
Then I stumbled upon this idea of using “sharp picks” – those pointy, metal picks you see in some hardware stores. They’re usually used for, I don’t know, ice or something? But I figured they could work as tool holders.
So I went to the local hardware store and bought a bunch of these picks. They were pretty cheap, which was great. I also grabbed some wooden boards I had lying around.
Getting to Work
Back in my garage, I took one of the wooden boards and started marking spots for the picks. I spaced them out evenly, making sure there was enough room for each tool.
Then, I drilled some pilot holes where I marked. This was important – I didn’t want to split the wood when I screwed in the picks. After drilling, I screwed each pick into the board. It was a bit of manual work, but nothing too hard.
Once all the picks were in, I mounted the board on the wall. I used some sturdy screws and made sure it was level. I didn’t want my tools sliding off!
The Result
And there it was – my DIY tool holder made from sharp picks. I started hanging my tools on it, and it worked like a charm. Screwdrivers, pliers, even some smaller saws – they all fit perfectly.

- It looked pretty cool, in a rugged sort of way.
- Most importantly, it organized my tools and freed up a lot of space.
I was pretty stoked with how it turned out. It’s not every day you find a simple solution that actually works well. Plus, it was a fun little project that didn’t take up my whole weekend.
