If You Love FFT, Youll Adore These Games Like FFT!

Must read

Okay, so I’ve been on a real tactics game kick lately. You know, those games where you gotta move your little dudes around a grid and outsmart the computer? Yeah, those. Well, I used to play the heck out of Final Fantasy Tactics (FFT) back in the day. Played it on PS1, then again on PSP – loved it to bits. I even messed around with Tactics Advance and A2 when I was younger. Good times. Now I’m looking for something to scratch that same itch, something I could play on PS5 or Switch.

I started digging around, just Googling “games like FFT” and stuff like that. Found a few names that people kept throwing around.

First Try: Diving into Divinity

First, a couple of folks online mentioned something called Divinity: Original Sin, both 1 and 2. I watched a few videos, and yeah, it’s got that top-down, turn-based combat, but it felt a bit… much. Lots of menus, tons of stats, and honestly, the story didn’t grab me right away. Plus it seems like a really long game, and I don’t have that kind of free time right now. I mean, it’s good, but not what I was searching for. Moved on from that one pretty quick.

Second Try: Triangle Strategy

Then someone said if I liked Octopath Traveler (which I did!), I should try Triangle Strategy. Okay, cool, another one to check out. Started playing, and it’s definitely closer to what I’m looking for. The pixel art is gorgeous, the story seems interesting, and the combat is solid. It’s got that grid-based movement I love, and there are some interesting choices to make that affect the story. So far, so good! I’m still playing this one, and I’m digging it.

Some Other Options

I also found a couple of other games that are supposedly similar to FFT. There’s this one called Mercenaries Blaze and another called Mercenaries Rebirth. People online were calling them “vanilla,” which I guess means they’re pretty basic. I mean, basic can be good, right? Sometimes you just want some simple, fun gameplay. I haven’t tried them yet, but I added them to my list. If you’ve played them, let me know if they are good.

And then there is this one called Fell Seal: Arbiter’s Mark. Someone online said it basically took FFT’s mechanics and just added a bunch of stuff on top. Sounds promising. I’ll have to check that one out too.

I even saw someone mention the old Brigandine games. Said the original (something about Forsena?) is one of their all-time favorites. They mentioned a newer one called Runersia. Might be worth looking into, though I’m not sure if they’re on PS5 or Switch.

Also stumbled upon a forum where they were talking about Tactics Ogre: Reborn. A lot of people were comparing it to FFT. Seems like another strong contender, so I added that to my ever-growing list. I also want to try these games: Arena for the gods, War Chest, Krosmaster Arena, Summoner Wars.

Some guys also keep recommending Fire Emblem games. I played the old Game Boy Advance ones. FE: the sacred stones, FE: Path of Radiance, and FE: Radiant Dawn are all I have played. If there are some new ones that are similar to FFT, I might give them a shot.

Still Searching

So yeah, that’s where I’m at. I’ve found a few promising leads, but I’m still on the hunt for that perfect FFT-like experience. I just want something with fun, tactical battles, a decent story, and characters I actually care about. Is that too much to ask? Anyway, if you’ve got any other recommendations, hit me up! I’m always open to suggestions.

  • Played FFT on PS1 and PSP.
  • Tried Divinity: Original Sin 1 and 2, but they weren’t quite what I was looking for.
  • Currently playing and enjoying Triangle Strategy.
  • Added Mercenaries Blaze, Mercenaries Rebirth, Fell Seal: Arbiter’s Mark, Brigandine, Tactics Ogre: Reborn to my list.
  • Heard good things about Fire Emblem.

That’s my journey so far. It’s been fun rediscovering this genre, and I’m excited to see what other gems I can unearth. Hopefully, this helps some of you who may be searching for the same things. Cheers!
