Elden Campbell Lakers Trade: Why Did It Happen?

Must read

Okay, so let’s talk about Elden Campbell and the Lakers. I remember when this guy was with the team, back in the day. He got drafted by the Lakers in 1990, I think it was the 27th pick overall, right out of Clemson. Fresh-faced and ready to go.

I followed the team pretty closely back then, so I got to see him develop over the years. He stuck with the Lakers for a good eight, maybe nine seasons. Really found his feet there and became a key player.

Then, bam, March 1999 rolls around, and the Lakers traded him and Eddie Jones to the Charlotte Hornets. Big change, you know? They got Glen Rice, J.R. Reid, and someone else in return. I was kind of bummed, but I guess that’s how it goes in the business, right?

After that, Campbell kept going for a few more years, bounced around the league a bit. I remember reading something about him flirting with an Italian team, Fonola, but that never happened. He stuck to the NBA. Solid career, no doubt. I even saw a highlight once where he blocked a crazy 9 shots in a single game! He was always a solid defender.

I went digging around a bit, just to refresh my memory, and found out some interesting things. Like, his middle name is Jerome, who knew? And his NBA debut was on November 3rd. Just some little tidbits that make you appreciate the guy’s career a bit more. I also learned he played his high school ball at Morningside High.

So, yeah, Elden Campbell. He might not be the first name you think of when you hear “Lakers,” but he was definitely a part of their story, and I enjoyed watching him play. It’s fun to reminisce about those days, even if my memory’s a little fuzzy on all the details. Those were the times, man. Those were the times.
