Okay, so let me tell you about this whole thing with the Newton South NPS freshman girls soccer team.

It all started when I decided to get involved with my daughter’s sports activities. She’s a freshman, you know, and I thought, “Why not?” So, I signed up to help out with the soccer team at Newton South.
First thing, I went to check out the team’s schedule. I found out they had a bunch of games lined up for the 22-23 season. It was packed! Games against different schools, some at home, some away. I made a note of all the dates, trying to figure out which ones I could actually make it to.
Then, I started looking into the team itself. They call themselves the “Lions,” which I thought was pretty cool. I dug around for some info on their news and roster. Wanted to get a feel for who the players were, what their strengths were, you know, the usual stuff. They had this whole list of girls, and I started learning their names, positions, all that jazz.
- They’re part of this big soccer program in Newton, apparently the largest all-girls soccer program in New England.
- There are over 1,000 girls from kindergarten to 9th grade playing soccer each season. That’s a lot of kids!
- The program is not just about soccer. They also focus on other skills and values, which I thought was great.
What I Learned About the Team
I also found out about this “Newton Girls Academy” thing. Sounds fancy, right? Supposedly, it helps young players become really good at soccer. They say their graduates have great technical skills and understand the game well. I guess we’ll see about that!
One thing that caught my eye was the ticket situation. For some games, you had to get tickets in advance through this “GoFan” site. I made a mental note to remind myself to grab tickets for the game against Brookline High School. That’s one I definitely didn’t want to miss.

So, yeah, that’s where I’m at right now. Still learning the ropes, trying to be a supportive soccer dad. It’s a whole new world, but it’s been pretty interesting so far. I’m just hoping I don’t embarrass my daughter too much! Will keep you guys updated on how it goes. Maybe I’ll even have some game highlights to share later on. We’ll see!
