Well, that Cam Porter, he sure is something. He plays that football, you know? For that Northwestern. He’s been there a while, that boy. Five years, I hear! Time sure does fly when you’re having fun, I reckon. He’s a good boy, that Cam. Always running with that ball.
They call him a “Running Back”. He sure do run a lot. Back and forth, back and forth. He’s from Cincinnati. That’s a long way from here, I tell ya. Heard he’s number 1 for that there Northwestern Wildcats. Good for him! He’s a senior now, almost done. This Saturday he plays against Illinois. That’s his last game, they say. His last regular season game. Whatever that means. Then he won’t run so much, maybe.
He’s a big boy, too. They say he’s 5-10, 213. I don’t know what that means exactly, but it sounds big to me. Bigger than my grandson, that’s for sure. And he’s a strong one, too. You gotta be strong to play that football. All that pushing and shoving.
He makes some money, that Cam Porter. They call it NIL, something like that. Says he can make money off his name, or his picture, or something. Back in my day, you just played for the love of the game. But times change, I suppose. This Cam Porter Northwestern fella, he’s got it figured out. Get paid to play, why not?

This Cam Porter, he’s been a captain, too. Twice, I hear! That means he’s a leader, you know? The other boys look up to him. He must be doing something right. Captain for the 2024 season, I heard. That’s this year. Time just keeps on ticking, don’t it?
They got all these numbers for him, too. They keep track of everything he does on that field. How many times he runs, how far he runs, how many times he scores. It’s all a bit much for me, but I guess it’s important for them football folks. This Cam Porter Northwestern boy, he’s got lots of these numbers. Lots of “stats”, they call ’em.
This Cam Porter, he’s got a whole “biography”, too. That means they wrote a story about him. Tells you where he’s been, what teams he’s played for. All that stuff. He must be pretty important to have his own story.
He plays for the Northwestern Wildcats. They got a wildcat as their, you know, their mascot. That’s a fierce animal, a wildcat. You wouldn’t want to meet one of those in the woods, I tell ya. I saw a picture of it one time, big teeth!
They even try to guess what’s gonna happen in his games. They try to “predict” it. Like they got a crystal ball or something. They talk about Ohio State, Indiana, all them other teams. It’s all a big to-do, this football. This Cam Porter, he’s right in the middle of it all.
This Cam Porter Northwestern fella, he’s got a “profile”, too. On something called “SportsGrid”. I don’t know what that is, but it sounds fancy. They got his picture on there, and his “stats”, and all that. It’s all online, I reckon. The internet. Everything’s on the internet these days.
Five years he’s been playing for Northwestern. That’s a long time. He must really love that football. Five years running around, getting tackled. He must be tough as nails, that Cam Porter. This last game against Illinois, I hope he does good. Hope he runs real far. Hope he scores lots of those, you know, touchdowns.
Anyways, that Cam Porter, he’s a good boy. A good football player. He’s gonna go places, that one. Maybe he will come visit, and bring me a pie or something. Or maybe a signed football, if that’s a thing. That would be nice, wouldn’t it?
