Waiver Wire Defense: Top Picks & Who to Grab This Week!

Must read

Okay, so, let’s talk about this “waiver wire defense” thing in fantasy football. I’m not gonna pretend I’m some kind of expert, but I’ve messed around with it enough to have some stories and maybe a tip or two.

Waiver Wire Defense: Top Picks & Who to Grab This Week!

So, it all started when I was in this league with my buddies. It was my first season of Fantasy football, and I was clueless. I mean, I drafted a decent team, or so I thought. But man, was I wrong. Every week, I’d get my butt kicked. My defense was like a revolving door, letting everyone score. We call it, a real mess.

Then one day, one of my friends, let’s call him Tom, he’s like, “Dude, you gotta work the waiver wire.” And I’m like, “The what now?” He explained it to me – how you can pick up players who aren’t on anyone’s team, especially defenses that are doing well that particular week. There are a lot of available players and I can choose every one of them.

First, I was skeptical. But I was also desperate. So, I started digging in. I remember the first time I tried it, I saw that the Jaguars’ defense wasn’t that good, I read somewhere that they were 30th in pressure rate or something like that, but I also read they are allowing enemy QBs to hit 20 fantasy points eight times in 2024, I thought it is a good chance. So I dropped my current defense, which was a tough call at that time, and picked them up. And guess what? They had a killer week! I couldn’t believe it. Suddenly, I wasn’t the laughingstock of the league anymore.

Here’s what I learned from my trial and error:

  • Don’t get attached: It’s hard, but you can’t be sentimental about your defense. If they’re not performing, you gotta be willing to let them go.
  • Look at the matchups: This is huge. You gotta see who the defenses are playing against. Like, if a defense is going up against a team with a weak offense, that’s your golden ticket. Like what I said, pick up the Jaguars!
  • Don’t be afraid to take risks: Sometimes, you gotta go with your gut. I remember one time I picked up a defense that no one else wanted, and they ended up being the top scorer that week.

Now, I’m not saying I’m winning championships or anything, but I’m definitely more competitive. And it’s kind of fun, you know? It’s like being a real coach, making these decisions every week.

So, if you’re struggling in your fantasy league, give the waiver wire a shot, especially when it comes to defense. It might just turn your season around. Or not. But hey, it’s worth a try, right?

And one last thing, I heard Anthony Richardson is a good player to look for, I am not quite sure, but I think he will be a good choice.

Anyway, that’s my two cents on this whole waiver wire defense thing. Hope it helps someone out there. Good luck, and may the fantasy odds be ever in your favor!
