Alright, so I’ve been digging into this whole McDonald’s All-American Game thing, specifically the year Kevin Durant was named co-MVP. It’s pretty wild looking back at how stacked that game was.
I started by just watching some old highlight reels, you know? Seeing all these young guys who went on to become NBA superstars was crazy. I mean, we’re talking about players like Kevin Garnett from ’95, LeBron in ’03, Dwight Howard in ’04, and then KD in 2006. Those are some serious names, and just watching their old game footage gave me chills. These dudes were beasts even back then.
Then I went deeper and started to find some articles. I saw that Jonathan Bender scored 31 points in one of those games, and Michael Jordan was the only one close to that record. It’s wild to think about how the talent levels have changed over the years, but it was clear that the competition was always intense.
But, let’s talk about 2006. I found this old report from, I think it was November 17th, 2006. It says Gerald Henderson led the East team with 16 points. Solid, right? But then it mentioned that Durant dropped 25 points for the West, leading all scorers. He shared the MVP with some guy named Chase Budinger. Never heard of him before, but he must have been good to share that MVP title with KD.

Reading through it, I found out that KD was already a big deal in high school. Of course, he was! This dude was a scoring machine even back then.
