This here thing, the Gunnar Henderson Home Run Derby, well, it’s a big deal, I reckon. That boy, Gunnar, he can sure hit a ball far. Heard he was gonna be in that there Home Run Derby thing. It’s like a contest, see who can hit the ball the furthest.
That Gunnar, he plays for them Baltimore Orioles. Big team, I suppose. Plays shortstop, whatever that is. Sounds important, though. They say he was in that Home Run Derby thing before, last year, at some place called Globe Life Field. Must be a fancy place, down in Texas.
- He hit a bunch of home runs last year, I heard.
- This year, I don’t know how he done.
- But that boy can swing a bat, that’s for sure.
Now, I don’t know much ’bout this baseball stuff, but I know home runs are good. Folks get all excited when someone hits one. Like a party or somethin’. This Home Run Derby, they just hit home runs, one after another. Must be fun to watch, ‘specially if you like seein’ that ball fly.
They had it on that TV, I think. On that ESPN channel. We don’t get that channel much out here. Signal’s not too good. Gotta have one of them fancy satellite dishes. But I heard folks talkin’ ’bout it. Said it was a big to-do. That Gunnar Henderson, he’s makin’ a name for himself.
I reckon this Home Run Derby is like a big show. Lots of folks watchin’. They got all them lights and cameras. Makes it seem real important. And them players, they get all dressed up in their uniforms. Looks like a real spectacle, I guess. Don’t know why they don’t just play the game, but hey, what do I know.
That Gunnar Henderson, he’s young, I hear. Got a whole career ahead of him. Hope he does well. It’s always good to see a young fella make somethin’ of himself. Especially when he can hit a ball that far. Gotta have some real power to do that.
- He got picked in the second round, whatever that means.
- Some folks said they missed out on him earlier.
- Don’t make much sense to me, but that’s baseball for ya.
This whole Home Run Derby thing, it’s a big deal for them baseball folks. They get all worked up about it. I guess it’s like our county fair, but with baseballs instead of pigs. And probably a lot more money involved. I bet them players make a pretty penny.
That Globe Life Field, it sounds like a real nice place. Bet it’s big, too. Gotta be to hold all them people watchin’ that Home Run Derby. Probably got all kinds of fancy stuff in there. Things we ain’t never even seen around here. But that’s alright. We got our own ways of doin’ things.
Now, I ain’t sayin’ I understand all this baseball stuff. But I can appreciate a good home run. It’s excitin’ to see that ball go sailin’ over the fence. And that Gunnar Henderson, he seems like he’s pretty good at makin’ that happen. So good for him, I say. Hope he keeps hittin’ them home runs.
I guess they do this Home Run Derby every year. Maybe next year, I’ll try to watch it. If I can get that ESPN channel to work. Or maybe someone around here will have a watch party or somethin’. That’d be fun. We could all get together and watch that Gunnar Henderson hit them balls clear out of the park. Yep, that would be something.
Heard they got some app now. ESPN app, they call it. Gotta keep up with technology. If you want to watch it, I guess you can watch it on your phone. These young folks know all about it. Maybe I will ask my grandkid to show me.
