Alright, folks, gather ’round! Today, I wanna talk about something that’s been bugging me – the 2023 NBA draft. It’s been a year, and I think it’s time we took a look back and see how things panned out. Yeah, I’m talking about a redraft.
First off, I fired up my computer and started digging through all sorts of articles and stats from last year’s draft. You know, trying to refresh my memory and get a feel for what everyone was thinking back then. I mean, who doesn’t want to start their day in front of their PCs, right? We were all so hyped about these young players, and now, with a year under their belts, we can really start to see who’s living up to the expectations and who’s not.
So, I started with the first pick and went down the list. Victor Wembanyama, remember that name? Everyone was going crazy for him! And guess what? He’s actually doing pretty well. I saw a stat that said his “value over replacement player” is the highest in the class, which, you know, it is kind of a big deal. It means he’s really making a difference for his team, and I gotta give it to him. He’s definitely one to watch in the coming years.
I spent hours going through each pick, one by one. I was looking at their stats, reading old articles, and comparing their actual performance to what people thought they’d do. It was like being a detective, trying to piece together the puzzle and see the bigger picture. And you know what? It’s not just about the numbers. I was also checking out how these guys fit into their teams, their playing styles, and all that stuff.
The deeper I got, the more interesting it became. There were some surprises, for sure. Some guys who were picked later in the draft are turning out to be real steals. Like Cason Wallace, he’s doing better than some of the guys picked before him. It just goes to show, you can’t always judge a player by where they were drafted.

After gathering all this info, I started to form my own opinions about how the draft should have gone down. It’s not about bashing anyone or saying “I told you so.” It’s more like, “Hey, based on what we know now, maybe this guy should have been picked higher, or maybe that team should have gone with a different player.”
I put together a whole list, a redraft of sorts, and it was a real eye-opener. I mean, if teams had a crystal ball and could see how these players would perform, I bet the draft order would have looked a lot different.
