Okay, so, the other day I got this call, right? It was about John Sterling and Giancarlo Stanton. I’m a huge Yankees fan, and well, Sterling’s voice is just iconic to me. So, I got all excited and picked up the phone right away.
First, I had to make sure I got the names right. It’s John Sterling, the legendary Yankees announcer, and Giancarlo Stanton, the big hitter. Got it. Then, I started digging around. I wanted to find out what this was all about.
I remembered Sterling’s special home run calls. I started searching for any news about him coming up with a new one for Stanton. I mean, the guy’s been calling Yankees games since 1989. He’s seen so many players come and go, but his calls for those big home runs are just something else.
I found some chatter about a new call he might be using. Apparently, it’s something like “Giancarlo, non si pu stoparlo!” which is supposed to be Italian. Then I saw some people saying he just yells “Giancarlo!” after a Stanton home run. It seems a bit confusing, but hey, it’s Sterling, what do you expect?

Then I stumbled upon this thing about him possibly coming out of retirement to call some postseason games. Now that would be something. Imagine him back in the booth for some playoff action. I guess we will have to wait and see.
Anyway, this whole thing got me thinking about all those memorable calls Sterling has made over the years. And Stanton’s home runs are always exciting. I just hope I get to hear Sterling’s voice on the air again soon, calling another one of those massive Stanton dingers.
