Okay, so I’ve been wanting to check out the horse races at Del Mar for a while now, and this year I finally made it happen. First things first, I needed to figure out when the races were actually happening. So I hit up the internet and looked for the “Del Mar racetrack calendar.”

It wasn’t too hard to find. The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club has a website, but I ended up on some other websites, like one that talked about the San Diego County Fair, which is at the same place. I was looking for the actual race dates, not fair information. I finally found it!
Turns out the 2023 racing season was supposed to start on Friday, July 21st. I made a mental note of that and kept looking. I also found some information for the 2025 season, which felt a bit early, but hey, I’m all for planning ahead. I put my name on a form to receive that 2025 season info. Better safe than sorry!
Once I had the dates figured out, I needed to know what time the races ended. I read a comment somewhere that a full day of races usually wraps up between 7:00 PM and 7:30 PM. Good to know. This person said they left at 5:45 PM after the 8th race, and there were 11 races total. They also mentioned that there’s about 45 minutes between each race. That was really helpful information.
Here’s what I ended up doing:
- Found the Calendar: I hunted around online and eventually figured out the racing schedule for Del Mar.
- Noted the Start Date: I saw that the 2023 season started on July 21st.
- Signed Up for Updates: I found a form for the 2025 season info and filled it out. Future me will appreciate that.
- Learned About Race Times: A comment mentioned races ending around 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM, with about 45 minutes between each race.
So yeah, that’s how I got the lowdown on the Del Mar racetrack calendar. It took a little digging, but I got all the info I needed. Now I’m all set to enjoy a day at the races! I will go to the races with my friends next month.
