Join the USC Tennis Club: How to do it (Easy guide for new students)

Must read

Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to get back into tennis for a while now. I used to play a lot, but then life happened, you know? Work, other commitments, the usual stuff. But I realized I missed it – the fresh air, the exercise, the satisfying thwack of the ball. Since I am studying at USC, I thought I’d check out the USC Tennis Club.

First, I did some digging online about this club. I found out that they’re the only recreational tennis community at USC. They seem pretty chill, just a bunch of Trojans who love tennis. It looks like a nice way to meet new people and have fun.

Then I poked around a bit more about the whole sports club scene at USC. Turns out, there’s a ton of options! Baseball, basketball, even ultimate frisbee, they’ve got it all. Seems like they’ve got something for everyone, no matter what your jam is. They said to check out their website, the recsports one, for the full list of clubs, I made a mental note to explore that later.

Next, I wanted to figure out how to actually join this tennis club. I went to their group page and tried to find a join button. It was pretty straightforward after I logged in with my USC Net ID.

  • Find the Tennis Club group: I looked for the Trojan Tennis Club’s group on the site.
  • Log in: I used my USC Net ID to log in to the portal.
  • Join: There was a “Join” button at the bottom of the group’s page. Clicked that, and I was in!

I also noticed that they mentioned something about reaching out to the clubs directly through their Instagram if you have questions. That’s cool, it makes them seem more approachable.

Honestly, the whole process was easier than I expected. I was worried it would be some complicated thing with tryouts or whatever. I saw that some clubs do have tryouts, but it doesn’t seem like the tennis club does, thank goodness. I’m just looking to play for fun and get some exercise, not go pro or anything.

Oh, and another thing I found out is that joining clubs is a great way to make friends. Makes sense, right? You’re already bonding over a shared interest. I definitely need to make some more friends here at USC, so this tennis club seems like a good opportunity for that. I saw something about a site called ZeeMee where new classmates can connect. Maybe I’ll take a look at that too.

Anyway, I’m pretty stoked to start playing again. I’m a bit rusty, haven’t played since the start of the pandemic, but hopefully, it’ll all come back to me. Maybe I’ll even find a regular tennis partner through the club. That would be awesome. Fingers crossed! Now I just need to find my old racket…
