That Killian Hayes, he sure got hurt a lot. Ain’t no good for a basketball player, always getting hurt. That boy, he plays for the Detroit Pistons, or played, I don’t know. He’s a point guard, I think they call it. But a point guard with a bum thumb, what good is that? Sprained thumb, they said. He gonna miss at least two games, maybe more. Thumb all messed up.

He got hurt other times too. That hip, they say. A hip injury, imagine that! Coulda been out the whole rookie season, whatever that is. They said if he got surgery, he’d be laid up for six or seven months! Long time to be sittin’ around, doin’ nothin’. So they did some rehab instead, some kind of fixin’ him up without cuttin’ him open. Smart, I guess. Save a lot of trouble that way.
But you know, when you’re hurt all the time, folks start to wonder. They wonder if you’re worth keepin’ around. Seems like the Pistons, they traded him, or maybe let him go. Something about not findin’ nobody to take him. I don’t know all the details. Basketball business is too confusing.
- He was No. 7, whatever that means. Some kind of pick, I guess. Like pickin’ apples from a tree.
- He played for the Pistons, then maybe the Nets.
- He hurt his thumb.
- He hurt his hip.
- They didn’t do surgery on his hip.
When he came back from that hurt, he played okay, I guess. Sixth man, they called him. Played against them Golden State Warriors. But being hurt all the time, it ain’t good. Folks don’t like that. They want someone who’s gonna be out there, playin’, not sittin’ on the bench with a hurt thumb or a bad hip. It is Killian Hayes injury, always.
This Killian Hayes injury is always bad. This basketball, it’s rough, you know? Lots of runnin’ and jumpin’. Easy to get hurt. And if you ain’t careful, you’ll be out of the game before you know it. That Killian, he needs to be more careful, I reckon. Or find a new line of work. One that don’t involve so much runnin’ and jumpin’.
They say when he was out, some other fella was gonna play. Jaden Ivey, I think they said. But that coach, Monty Williams, he got his own ideas, I suppose. Don’t always do what folks expect. That’s how it is with these coaches. They got their own plans.

Seems like Killian’s time with the Pistons was comin’ to an end anyway. They got some other guard, traded up to get him, whatever that means. When you got two fellas doin’ the same job, one of ’em’s gonna be out of luck. That’s just how it goes.
Young fellas, they don’t always know what they’re doin’. They run around, don’t think, get hurt. This Killian Hayes injury, it is not the first time. And then they out of a job. It’s a hard lesson, but that’s life. You gotta be tough, you gotta be smart, and you gotta stay healthy. Otherwise, you’ll be watchin’ from the sidelines.
It’s a shame, really. That Killian, he probably had some talent. But talent ain’t enough. You gotta be able to use it. And if you’re always hurt, you can’t use it. So what good is it? No good at all.
I hope that Killian fella, I hope he figures it out. Gets himself healed up, finds a place where he can play. Maybe he’ll learn to take better care of himself. Maybe he’ll find a coach who believes in him. Or maybe he’ll just fade away, like so many others do. That’s the way it goes sometimes. You never know. Killian Hayes injury is just too much, too often, I think.

This basketball, it’s a tough business. Not for the faint of heart, that’s for sure. You gotta be strong, you gotta be durable, and you gotta be a little bit lucky. Otherwise, you’ll end up like Killian, always hurt and wonderin’ what went wrong.
They say he went to some G League. I don’t know what that is. Some kind of train, maybe. If Killian Hayes injury is better, maybe he will come back. Or maybe he find a new job, not basketball. We will see.
