I wanted to share my recent experience, I tried to watch my favorite baseball team, the Atlanta Braves. I found their recent games information and schedule on “Braves Today”. They have some really terrible loss recently and got a 6-0 loss to the Giants. How could this happen? I just can’t believe it!
And then I started to search for more information about the Braves. I remember that I heard about something called “tomahawk chop”, I’m so curious about it and I started to search for it. I heard that the Native Americans have been arguing about the Braves’ mascot choices, especially the “tomahawk chop” thing, since the 1970s. Gosh, it has been a long time! But the Atlanta Braves and their fans still strongly support the team name and the chop thing.
I also found that the Atlanta Braves changed ownership. They were sold by Time Warner to Liberty Media in 2007. Time flies! It has been almost twenty years now. And the Bally Sports is the TV channel for the Braves, as their only TV partner. I will surely check them out next time when I watch the game.
Oh, and there’s this interesting thing I found. The Braves have a good relationship with the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians. It is said that they don’t oppose the name or the Tomahawk Chop, according to someone named Richard Sneed. That’s quite surprising given the controversy.
