So, I’ve been messing around with this Yamaha XT125 bike for a while now, and I gotta say, it’s been a journey. This thing isn’t exactly a powerhouse, you know? It’s got this 12.5bhp motor, which is less than the YBR 125, and I don’t know who decided that was a good idea, but whatever. I wasn’t about to let that stop me, though.
First thing I did was think about the rims. They looked a bit dull, so I took them off and painted them black. That was pretty straightforward, just a bit of elbow grease and some paint, and boom, they looked way better. A small change, but it made a big difference in the overall look of the bike.
Then, I started thinking about what else I could do. I mean, a bike like this is basically a blank canvas. You can tweak it, change it, and make it your own. I started looking around online and found a bunch of ideas. There are a ton of things you can do, from making it look cooler to making it run better.
Making it Mine
I realized this whole customization thing is a rabbit hole. You start with one thing, and then you find ten other things you want to do. It’s kind of addictive. I found this list of the top 10 motorcycle customizations, and that got me even more excited. I wanted to do all of them!
I went down to a local parts shop and started looking at exhaust systems. That place was awesome, by the way. They had everything. I found a pretty sweet exhaust and decided to go for it. It wasn’t too expensive, and I figured it would be a good start.
Hands-On Work
Installing the exhaust was a bit more involved than painting the rims. I had to get the old one off, which was a bit of a pain, but I managed. Then, I put the new one on and tightened everything up. It took a couple of hours, but when I finally fired up the bike, it sounded so much better.
After that, I started thinking about the electrical stuff. The lights on this bike are terrible, honestly. They’re dim, and they just don’t do a good job. I knew I had to do something about that. I started researching electrical upgrades, and it seemed like a lot of people had the same issue with these bikes.
I haven’t actually done the electrical upgrades yet, but it’s definitely on my list. I’m planning to do it gradually, step by step. I don’t want to mess anything up, and it’s always good to take your time with these things.
What’s Next?
I know there are tons of other upgrades I could do. Some folks online were talking about changing the gear, others modded their XT250, and that got me thinking too, but for now, I’m pretty happy with where the bike is at. I mean, it’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and I’ve put my own touch on it.

- Investigate gear and other mods (maybe later)
It’s been a fun project, and I’m definitely not done yet. There’s always something else you can do to a bike, and that’s part of the fun, right? You get to tinker, learn new things, and make something that’s truly your own. So, yeah, that’s my story with the XT125 so far. Stay tuned, I guess, because I’m sure there will be more to come.
