So yeah, heard whispers about these “Pot of Pain Calamity” things being crazy useful end-game. Figured I needed some myself. Grabbed my usual gear – max-level Berserker with the decent-but-not-godly axe – and just dove in blind. Big mistake. Like, HUGE.
First instinct? Hit the biggest, baddest open-world zone everyone talks about: Sulfur Wastes. Spent maybe two whole hours just running loops. Killed everything. Giant lava scorpions? Smashed ‘em. Annoying fire bats? Swatted ‘em. Piles of grey trash loot later? ZERO pots. Nada. Zilch. Felt like the game was laughing at me. Worse, kept getting ganked by roaming elite mobs. Repair bills started adding up. Annoying.
Changing Tactics (After Wasting Coffee)
Sipped cold coffee, scratched my head. Maybe elites were the key? Grinded for another hour near the Brimstone Citadel entrance. Focused ONLY on those big, angry armored demons waving giant cleavers. They hit like trucks! Used all my potions just staying alive. Dropped:
- More epic crafting mats I didn’t need
- Another slightly-better-but-still-meh axe
- A mount skin… for a lizard. Seriously?
Still no Pain Pot. Absolutely frustrating. The RNG gods hated me.
The Obvious Dumb Luck Moment
Finally rage-quit Sulfur Wastes. Seriously, screw that place. While browsing the forums later (mostly just complaining posts), saw this tiny comment buried deep: “lol try fishing in Scorched Vale?”. Fishing? FISHING? For an end-game chaos pot?! Sounded stupid. But hey, desperate times.
Portaled over to Scorched Vale. It’s this weird, ashy lake area nobody goes to. Water looks like liquid smoke. Threw my line in near the bubbling vents. Figured I’d get trash fish or boots. Couple minutes in? BAM. Reel goes nuts. Pull out this weird, wriggling shadow-mass thing. For real? One cast? Used my “Identify Curious Loot” skill (which I only leveled as a joke) and bam: Pot of Pain Calamity x1. Jaw literally dropped.
Tried again. More weird shadow-fish. Another cast? Got a SECOND pot maybe ten minutes later. Couldn’t believe it.
The Actual Spots Worth Your Time
So yeah, after wasting like 4 hours getting my butt kicked by elites for nothing, turns out the REAL good spots are kinda… unexpected and boring? Here’s where I finally found ’em reliably:
- Scorched Vale (Deep Ash Vents): Use any high-level bait. Don’t need a special rod. Just chill and watch for the “Violent Tug” animation. Drop rate felt WAY better than elites.
- Whispering Catacombs (Forgotten Offering Pools): Tiny pools deep in the dungeon, usually near those creepy altars. Not from mobs! Drop rate seemed okay after clearing trash first.
- NOT the big bad zones everyone grinds: Seriously, Sulfur Wastes, Brimstone Citadel? Total time sinks for these pots. Avoid unless you’re there for other stuff.
Felt kinda dumb. All that sweat for nothing, when I could’ve been fishing in peace. If I sound salty? Yeah, because I AM.
What My Pain (Pot) Taught Me
Big lesson: Sometimes the “meta” grind spots are traps. Everyone’s fighting over the same obvious things. Took stepping back, looking at weird skills (like fishing!), and trying the ignored areas.
