- Found a bottle of toxic sludge – slapped it onto my trusty Gengar.
- Grabbed that fire-spitting lizard I caught last week.
Throwing Stuff At The Wall
Hopped into some battles, ready to experiment. First try: Sent Steelix out against a Fairy… waited… nothing happened. Okay, bad matchup. Switched fast. Next: Tried the Gengar with the sludge. Little purple blob actually started laughing. Fairy just shrugged it off like a bad joke. Seriously? Ugh.
Almost gave up. Decided to try the fire lizard one last time. Clicked a Fire move. Boom. Fairy went down like a sack of potatoes. Eyes went wide. “Wait, fire works?!”
Finding What Actually Stuck
Started mixing things up after that surprise fire win. Learned Poison only sometimes works – gotta hit hard and fast with it. Steel types? Only the heavy-hitters made a dent. Just being Steel wasn’t enough. Kept notes:
- Fire Moves: My lizard breathed fire. Fairy fainted. Simple.
- Strong Steel Moves: Steelix finally did his job when he used a proper heavy attack.
- Specific Poison Attacks: Gengar’s weaker sludge got ignored. But when he used that big cloud of purple poison gas? That made a Fairy cough and drop.
- Surprise Option – Steel Spikes: Threw these pointy things down first. Next Fairy switched in? Took damage just showing up!
Building a Counter Squad
Put together a rough “Anti-Fairy Kit” after that painful trial-and-error:
- A reliable Fire user (my lizard finally earned his keep).
- A heavy-duty Steel attacker (Steelix on clean-up duty).
- A fast Poison user that knows at least one big poison attack (Gengar, less laughs, more damage).
- Steel Spikes item – always pack it!
Final Win (And Lingering Questions)
Fought the same Fairy team that wrecked me earlier. Led with the spikes. Sent out Fire Lizard first. Fairy switched in, took spike damage, then ate a fire blast. Down instantly. Felt so damn satisfying.
Not perfect though. Some really bulky Fairies still took a couple hits. And faster Fairies outsped my lizard sometimes. Guess I gotta tweak things more.
Lesson learned? Don’t just assume you know what counters what. Test it yourself. Might get surprised. Fire wrecking Fairies? Wouldn’t have believed it until I saw it burn ’em down myself.
