Womens Long Drive Competition What is It and How to Join Now

Must read

Okay so last weekend I was scrolling through golf stuff online – honestly kinda bored with regular tournaments – when this post about Women’s Long Drive Competition pops up. Hadn’t really heard much about it before. Thought long drive was just the big dudes swinging out of their shoes, you know? Clearly, I was wrong.

Figuring Out What This Thing Actually Is

First step was obvious: figure out what this competition was all about. Searched everywhere – social media, golf forums, community pages. Found out it’s exactly what it sounds like: women golfers trying to hit the golf ball as far as humanly possible. Simple as that. But finding solid info felt like pulling teeth at first. A lot of older stuff focused on the men’s side.

Digging Into How They Run These Things

Once I got the basic idea, I needed the details on how these competitions actually work. Here’s the breakdown I pieced together:

  • No Handicaps, Just Raw Power: They don’t care about your handicap. Doesn’t matter if you shoot 70 or 100 normally. It’s all about that one swing, how fast you can get that club moving.
  • Sets & Grids: You usually get like 2 or 3 minutes per “set,” and within that time, you have to hit 6 balls (like, really quickly!). The landing area is this huge grid marked out on the range. Balls landing outside the grid boundaries? They just don’t count, period. Zero points. Gotta keep it in the lines.
  • Qualifiers Lead to Finals: Seems most big comps start with local or online qualifiers. If you bomb it big time there and land a crazy long shot, boom, you might get invited to the finals – which look insane on the streams I found!

Taking the Plunge & Signing Up

Honestly, seeing videos of other women absolutely crushing it got me pumped. Like, “Yeah, I wanna try that!” Found the main organization site – took a bit of clicking around to find the page actually listing upcoming events. Filtered for stuff in my region. Saw one happening about 3 weeks from now at a driving range only a couple hours away. Perfect.

The signup was… surprisingly straightforward? Filled out an online form with my name, contact info, golf association number (if you have one), paid the entry fee right there with a card. Got a confirmation email maybe 2 minutes later saying I was registered and giving me my set time slot. No fancy apps, no weird logins, just basic info and money. Done.

What I’m Doing Right Now (Spoiler: Panic Practice)

Okay, registered. Reality check hits: I don’t normally just try to smash the ball 300+ yards! My regular game is way more about control. So now I’m suddenly obsessed.

  • Hitting the range almost daily, specifically practicing ONLY with my driver. Technique feels totally different trying to max out speed. Forearms are already sore!
  • Watching tons of slow-mo videos of the top women long drivers. Trying to copy their posture, their backswing, that crazy fast hip turn.
  • Playing around with tee height – way higher than normal makes a difference for launch angle.
  • Honestly? Just learning to let loose. Holding nothing back feels weird and scary, but also kinda fun. Forget accuracy, just swing out of my shoes!

It’s messy, it’s different, but hell, it’s exciting. The comp is in a few weeks. Am I nervous? Yeah. But mostly just stoked to step onto that grid and see what happens when I really, truly, try to just hit it hard. No strategy, just smash. We’ll see how it goes!
