Alright so yesterday I watched this Eric Kelly highlight reel thinking “dang those punches look sharp” – my own sparring felt like throwing wet noodles lately. Grabbed water bottle and phone charger just in case, fired up the laptop right after breakfast. Figured today’s project: try copying his three most used combos.

Warming Up First
Dragged the heavy bag outta garage corner kicking up dust. Wrapped hands slow like wrapping burritos – thumb kept poking out wrong. Jumped rope for like two minutes tops before tripping, switched to shadowboxing instead. Shoulders already burning doing arm circles.
Combo Attempt Number One
Kelly does this jab-straight-hook thing smooth as butter. Okay: left jab fake, right cross, left hook. Smacked bag on first try! Felt great til I forgot my feet. Tripped over dumb dog toy behind me, elbow whacked the doorframe. Sat down rubbing it going “ouch damn ouch”.
- Attempt 2: Jab okay, cross weak sauce
- Attempt 3: Hook went too high like swatting flies
- Attempt 4: Finally got full combo WHAM! Bag spun crazy
That Sneaky Body Shot
Video showed him dropping levels fast for body punches. Squatted low… knees popped like popcorn. Nearly ate canvas. Held bag steady with one hand, threw weak liver shot with other. Looked like patting a dog’s head. After dozen tries managed one solid THUD sound. Knuckle stung like hell though.
Final Showstopper Fail
Saved his fancy overhand right for last. Wound up like baseball pitcher – shoulder made crunchy noise. Whole combo: left feint, right uppercut, then BAM overhand. Uppercut missed bag completely. Overhand hit the chain holding bag instead. Rattle almost deafened me. Gave up after fifth try, hand all red like lobster.
Took a sweaty selfie with messed up bag. Whole session took maybe forty minutes tops? Gotta admit – Kelly’s moves look easy til your own fists forget which way is forward. Tomorrow maybe just practice jabs… elbows still sore typing this.
