So I’ve been playing a lot at Brock Golf Course lately, but sometimes the tee times are packed. Wanted to check what other spots are nearby for when that happens. Grabbed my phone and just started searching around Houston. Heres how it went down.

First Step – Scouting Locations
Hopped on Google Maps and zoomed around the area near Brock. Saw like five spots within 15 miles that popped up. Wrote em down on a sticky note:
- Gus Wortham Golf Course
- Memorial Park Golf Course
- Hermann Park Golf Course
- Sharpstown Golf Course
- Battleground Golf Course
Checking Greens Conditions
Called two buddies who golf around Houston. One guy said Sharpstown has drainage issues after rain – muddy as heck last week. Another warned Battleground looks nice but pace is brutal on weekends. Decided to actually drive by Hermann Park yesterday around noon. Holy smokes the parking lot was jam-packed, like concert-level crowds. Noped outta there immediately.
Testing Memorial Park
Booked twilight rates at Memorial Park this Tuesday. Got there 45 mins early just to check facilities. Pro shop guy was super helpful explaining their renovation story while I bought balls. Course layout’s challenging but fair – lost four balls on doglegs cause my slices came back. Greens rolled true though. Only big downside? Freaking highway noise from 610 buzzes in your backswing.
Final Thoughts & Tips
Turns out Gus Wortham is my top backup pick. Decent rates weekdays and cool downtown skyline views. If money’s no object? Battleground’s got that country club vibe. Heres what Id tell locals:
- Avoid Hermann Park after 10AM unless you love 5-hour rounds
- Memorial’s worth playing but pack earplugs
- Sharpstown’s a maybe if it hasn’t rained in 3 days
Probably gonna alternate between Brock and Gus Wortham all season. Mission accomplished!
