Alright, so I decided to actually sit down and hash out my own Apex Legends tier list. It’s been rattling around in my brain for a while, especially after some, let’s say, intense discussions with my squad about who’s actually pulling their weight and who’s just, well, there.
Getting Started – The “Why” and The “How”
First off, I wasn’t trying to make some pro-level, mathematically perfect list. Nah, this was more about my own experiences, what I’ve seen work, and what just feels strong when I’m in the thick of it. I play a fair bit, you know? Not a pro, not even close, but I’ve clocked enough hours to have some strong opinions, haha.
So, the first thing I did was just… play. A lot. I tried to consciously pick legends I don’t usually run with, just to get a fresh feel. Some were surprisingly fun, others, man, I just couldn’t click with them, no matter how “meta” people say they are. I also spent some time just watching. Not like, studying VODs with a notepad, but just paying attention when I got spectated or when I was watching my teammates after I inevitably got downed.
Sorting Through The Chaos
After soaking in all that Apex goodness (and frustration), I actually grabbed a digital notepad. Yeah, fancy, I know. I started by just listing all the legends. Then, I made some broad categories: S-Tier (the absolute game changers), A-Tier (super solid, always a good pick), B-Tier (good, but maybe a bit more situational or team-dependent), and then, you know, the rest. I try not to think in terms of “trash tier” because every legend can be good, but let’s be real, some make life easier than others.
Putting them into those buckets was the real grind. Here’s kinda how my thought process went for placing a few:
- Movement Legends: These guys, like your Octanes and Pathfinders, always seem to float near the top for me. Getting out of bad spots or pushing an advantage fast is just too huge in this game. Pathfinder took me a bit to place because his tactical can be amazing or get you killed, but overall, yeah, high up.
- Support Legends: Lifeline, Loba… these were interesting. Lifeline used to be an easy S for me, but things change, right? Loba, with her black market, is incredibly useful, especially for gearing up the team quickly. So I had to really think about their overall impact, not just one ability.
- Defensive Legends: Caustic, Wattson, Rampart. These often depend so much on your playstyle and if your team is on the same page. I tried to rank them based on how well they can lock down an area or control a fight, even if it’s not my personal go-to style.
- Recon Legends: Bloodhound, Seer, Crypto. Knowing where the enemy is? Priceless. But again, some are easier to get value from than others. Crypto, for instance, is super powerful, but you need good coordination, which isn’t always a thing when you’re solo queuing.
The Never-Ending Debate (Even With Myself)
I moved legends up and down that list so many times. I’d put someone in A-tier, then have a couple of amazing games with them and think, “No, this guy’s S-tier for sure!” Then I’d get absolutely beamed playing them next round and second-guess myself all over again. It’s tough because the game changes, new legends come out, buffs and nerfs happen. What’s top-tier today might be just okay tomorrow.
I even considered stuff like pick rates and win rates I’d heard about online, but honestly, I tried to stick more to my gut and what I’ve personally found to be effective. Sometimes a legend with a low pick rate can be a hidden gem if you know how to use ’em, you know?
My “Final” Thoughts (For Now)
So, I eventually landed on a list I felt pretty okay with. It’s not set in stone, obviously. I’ll probably look at it next week and want to change half of it. That’s just Apex for you. But going through the process was actually pretty helpful. It made me think more critically about each legend’s kit and how they fit into a team.
Sharing it with my mates led to more arguments, of course, but that’s half the fun, isn’t it? Everyone’s got their favorites and their own reasons. At the end of the day, the “best” legend is probably the one you’re best with. Still, it’s fun to categorize and debate. That’s my take on it, anyway.
