Okay, so I was looking at my closet the other day, and man, the pile of empty Nike shoe boxes was getting out of hand. Just sitting there, taking up space. I usually just toss ’em, but I thought, maybe I can actually do something with one of these.
I needed a spot for all my charging cables, old earbuds, USB sticks, you know, all that small tech junk that ends up tangled in a drawer. So, I picked out one of the sturdier Nike boxes – one of those thicker orange ones.
Getting Started
First thing, I just wiped it down, inside and out. It was pretty clean already, just a bit dusty. Then I stared inside, thinking. Just throwing stuff in wouldn’t be much better than the drawer. It needed sections, like dividers.
I looked around for something to use. Found some decent cardboard from an old delivery box. Perfect.
Making the Inserts
Here’s what I did:
- Measured the length and width inside the Nike box. Gotta be somewhat precise, right?
- Cut strips from the spare cardboard. Made them just a bit shorter than the box height so the lid would still close easily.
- Figured out how many compartments I wanted. Decided on making a simple grid, maybe six sections.
- Cut little slits halfway through the cardboard strips where they needed to cross each other. One strip got slits from the top down, the crossing strip got slits from the bottom up.
- Slid the strips together using the slits. It made a nice little grid divider. Took a couple of tries to get the cuts right so they fit snugly.
The Result
Popped the cardboard grid into the Nike box. Fit pretty well, actually. Didn’t even need glue or anything, the pressure held it in place. Then, I started sorting my stuff – USB cables in one section, chargers in another, memory cards, adapters… you get the idea.
Honestly, it worked out great. The box looks kinda cool sitting on my shelf, way better than a plain plastic container. Plus, I actually used one of those boxes instead of just hoarding it. Pretty simple job, but felt good to make something useful out of trash.
