Alright, let’s talk about my experience with Dr. Taban in Northridge. I’m just gonna lay it all out, the good, the bad, and the downright awkward.
So, it all started when I noticed my eyesight wasn’t what it used to be. Like, street signs were blurry, reading was a struggle, you know the drill. I knew I needed to get my eyes checked, and Dr. Taban’s office kept popping up in my search results. Plus, a buddy of mine said he had a decent experience there, so I figured, why not?
First things first, booking the appointment was pretty easy. I called ’em up, and the receptionist was friendly enough. Got me scheduled for a comprehensive eye exam a couple of weeks out. No sweat.
The day of the appointment, I showed up a little early, ’cause I’m always paranoid about being late. The waiting room was pretty standard – magazines I’d never read, that weird generic art on the walls, you get the picture. Filled out the paperwork, the usual stuff about my medical history and what kind of insurance I have.
Didn’t have to wait too long before they called me back. A tech took me to one of the exam rooms and ran me through a bunch of preliminary tests. You know, the puff of air in the eye (hate that thing!), checking my eye pressure, all that jazz. She was nice, explained everything clearly.
Then Dr. Taban came in. He seemed professional, asked me about my concerns, and we talked about my family history with eye problems. He started the exam, flipping through those lenses, “Is this clearer? Or this?” You know the routine. He seemed thorough, and I felt like he was really paying attention.
Here’s where things got a little… weird. During the exam, he made a comment about how I should consider getting LASIK. Now, I hadn’t even mentioned LASIK, and I wasn’t really thinking about it. He started going on about how it could change my life, how convenient it is, blah blah blah. It felt a bit like he was trying to sell me something, which kinda rubbed me the wrong way. I mean, I came in for a routine eye exam, not a sales pitch.
Anyway, he finished the exam, gave me my prescription, and then went back to pushing LASIK. I politely declined, saying I’d think about it. He seemed a little disappointed, but he didn’t push it too hard. Thank god.
I went out to the front desk, paid my copay, and left. Overall, the exam itself was fine. Dr. Taban seemed competent, but the LASIK sales pitch was a major turnoff. It just felt unnecessary and a little pushy.
- The Good: Easy to book an appointment, thorough exam, friendly tech.
- The Bad: The unsolicited and persistent LASIK sales pitch.
- The Ugly: That damn puff-of-air test. Seriously, who invented that thing?!
So, would I go back to Dr. Taban? Maybe. If I needed a quick eye exam and didn’t mind deflecting a sales pitch, then yeah. But if I was looking for a more relaxed and less sales-oriented experience, I’d probably try someone else.
I ended up getting my new glasses and can see much better now. I can finally see the street signs clearly again. Mission accomplished, I guess. Just wish it hadn’t come with the LASIK hard sell.
