My Trip Down to Bramley-Moore Dock
So, I kept hearing bits and pieces about this massive new stadium Everton are building down at the docks. Heard it was costing a fortune, changing the whole waterfront. Curiosity finally got the better of me, you know? I just had to go see what all the fuss was about myself. Decided one afternoon, right, let’s just drive down there.
Getting close, you can’t miss it. Along the dock road, it just looms up. Seriously massive. Pictures don’t really do it justice. You stand there looking up, and it’s just huge. They weren’t kidding when they said it was enormous. It completely dominates the area.
I spent a bit just walking around the perimeter, as much as you can with all the construction fences up. You can see the basic shape, that bowl design they talked about. Looks like a lot of steel and glass, quite modern compared to the old dock buildings nearby. It’s quite a contrast, really. This brand new thing sitting on a dock that’s been there since, what, the 1840s? Named after some fella Bramley-Moore back then.
Thinking about the details I’d read:
- They’re aiming for something like 53,000 seats. That’s a fair few people.
- Apparently, they’ve built it so they can add safe standing later if the rules change. Makes sense to think ahead, I suppose. Could squeeze even more fans in then.
- The cost, though… over £750 million? Wow. That’s a staggering amount of money for a football ground.
It felt pretty strange standing there. On one hand, it’s exciting. A big new project, hopefully bringing something good to the area. On the other, it’s just so… big and expensive. Changes the whole feel of that part of the docks.
They reckon it’ll be ready for the season starting in 2025. Seems like a long way off, but seeing the scale of it, you can understand why it takes time. It’s definitely something to see. Left me thinking about how much that part of the city is changing. Worth the trip, just to grasp the size of it all.
