Must read

Okay, here’s my attempt at writing a blog post in the style you described, about my experience with ZX 750s:

My ZX 750 Journey: From Zero to (Almost) Hero

Alright folks, let me tell you about my ZX 750 adventure. I ain’t no expert, just a regular dude who likes to tinker and sometimes bites off more than he can chew.

So, it all started when I saw this ZX 750 project bike online. Looked rough, real rough. Like, been-sitting-in-a-barn-for-20-years rough. But something about it, maybe the price, maybe my own stupidity, made me think, “Yeah, I can fix that!”

First thing I did was haul that beast home. Man, it was heavier than it looked! Got it in the garage, and just stared at it for a while. Kinda overwhelmed, not gonna lie. Everything was covered in grime, the tires were flat, and the engine… well, I had no idea if it even turned over.

  • Step 1: The Deep Clean. I spent a whole weekend just cleaning. Degreaser, brushes, elbow grease – the works. Found all sorts of nasty stuff, including what I’m pretty sure was a family of spiders living in the airbox.
  • Step 2: See If It Turns Over. After the clean, I figured I’d try to see if the engine was seized. Sprayed some WD-40 in the cylinders, crossed my fingers, and tried to turn it over with a wrench. It moved! Felt like winning the lottery, honestly.

Next up was the real fun: tearing into the engine. I bought a manual (thank god for manuals!), and just started taking things apart. Labeling everything, taking pictures – trying to be organized, you know? Found a few surprises, like a piston ring that was broken in half and some valves that were seriously gunked up.

Ordering parts was a pain. Seems like nobody makes parts for these things anymore. Had to scour eBay, join some forums, and even call up some old-school motorcycle shops. Took weeks to get everything I needed.

Rebuilding the engine was… interesting. I watched a bunch of YouTube videos, read the manual a million times, and just took my time. Made a few mistakes, had to redo some things, but eventually, I got it all back together. Felt pretty damn proud of myself at that point.

Got the engine back in the frame, hooked everything up, filled it with oil, and… nothing. Wouldn’t start. Spent the next few days troubleshooting. Checked the spark plugs, the fuel, the wiring. Turns out, I had the timing off. Fixed that, and she fired right up! Sounded rough, but it was ALIVE!

Still got a ways to go. The carbs need some serious attention, the brakes are shot, and the paint looks like it was applied with a toothbrush. But hey, it runs! And I learned a ton. Definitely worth the effort (I think). Will keep you all updated on my progress. Wish me luck!

Oh, and one last thing: always wear gloves. My hands are still covered in grease!
