This is how to turn off story suggestions on snapchat: follow our quick step by step guide.

Must read

Alright, let’s talk about Snapchat and those story suggestions. They started really getting on my nerves, popping up all the time with stuff I just didn’t care about. Felt like my feed wasn’t even mine anymore. So, I decided I had to figure out how to shut them down, or at least turn them way down.

This is how to turn off story suggestions on snapchat: follow our quick step by step guide.

First thing I did was jump into the app. Tapped my little Bitmoji face up in the corner, then hit that gear icon to get into Settings. Naturally, I started scrolling, looking for anything obvious. You know, like a big button saying “Turn Off Annoying Suggestions”. Spoiler: no such button exists. Classic.

I poked around in Privacy Controls, Notification Settings, all the usual suspects. Nothing seemed quite right. It wasn’t like flipping a single switch. Seemed like Snapchat really wants you to see that stuff.

So, here’s what I actually ended up doing

I realized it wasn’t gonna be one fix. It was more about cleaning house and telling the app what I didn’t want, piece by piece.

  • Clearing Stuff Out: Went back into Settings. Scrolled way down to ‘Account Actions’. Found options like ‘Clear Cache’ (specifically the Discover feed one if it’s there, sometimes it’s just a general cache clear). Tapped that. Then I found ‘Clear Search History’ and nuked that too. Figured less data history might mean fewer weird suggestions based on past searches.
  • Dealing with Discover/Spotlight Manually: This was the annoying part. When I saw a suggested story tile on the Stories page or Spotlight that I didn’t like, I had to press and hold on it. Then this little menu pops up. I’d hit things like ‘See Less Like This’ or sometimes just ‘Hide’ or ‘I don’t like this’. Had to do this quite a few times for different types of content. It feels like training the algorithm, slowly.
  • Muting Friend Stories (Optional but helpful): This wasn’t strictly about suggestions, but muting stories from actual friends I didn’t watch often also cleaned up the feed, making the random suggestions feel less overwhelming. You just press and hold their story circle and hit ‘Mute’.

After doing all that, did the suggestions vanish completely? Honestly, no. Snapchat still throws some things in there. But, and this is the important part, it got way better. The feed felt much cleaner, less cluttered with random junk I had zero interest in. It took a bit of effort, especially the manual hiding part, but it definitely reduced the noise. So yeah, no magic bullet, but a bit of persistent cleaning and hiding made a noticeable difference for me.
